ANDREWS AIR FORCE BASE, MARYLAND — Flanked by two fighter jets and in front of a giant American flag, President Trump on Friday signed the 2020 National Defense Authorization Act that officially created the Space Force, the sixth and first new military branch since 1947.

“For the first time since Truman, we will create a brand new American military service,” Trump said. “You will witness the birth of the Space Force. That’s a big moment and we’re all here for it.”

How ironic! 1947 is the Year the military recovered a flying saucer that crashed in Roswell, New Mexico.

There should have been a Cyber Force created first. Maybe in the next term. I’m not advocating for an infinitely expanding military, rather a separate force would starve the other branches and the defense contractors of money that is building redundant capacity and driving up the costs because they’re getting the branches to compete for scarce talent to train, staff and support that redundant capacity.
