McConnell blasts House impeachment, pledges Senate stability
WRBL ^ | 12/19/2019

McConnell described Trump’s impeachment as “the most rushed, least thorough, and most unfair impeachment inquiry in modern history.”

“The framers built the Senate to provide stability,” McConnell says in his Senate floor remarks, according to excerpts released by his office. “To keep partisan passions from boiling over. Moments like this are why the United States Senate exists.”

The House impeached Trump on two charges—abusing his power and obstructing Congress—stemming from his pressure on Ukraine to announce investigations of his political rival as he withheld U.S. aid.

The framers built the Senate to provide stability

While that's true, the popular election of members of same was not part of the original plan.

I watched that live, and it’s obvious that McConnell is very angry with the US House.

I think that after seeing what they did to Brett Kavanaugh, the Republicans finally are seeing the nastiness of the dems after all these years. It was a wake up call for them.

Mitch is signaling dismissal. Nobody plays the grown up in the room better than Mitch.

Agreed that senators should once again be representatives of their state as a sovereign political entity. (Which they each still are, I think)

Very true.

But thank God some of the old timbers are still in place.

And the Dems are on-camera acting like they “toooootally care
“ about the constitution.

So here is a nice helping of it.

dismissal is not an option. But they can come close by setting the rules such that no new testimony happens in the senate.

McConnell is very angry with the US House

Like him or not, like the fact he is a life long politician or not, he has spent his career operating under a set of rules, what we might call the rule of law or the constitution, and he is rightfully PO'd that the present day dem party is nuking those rules, the constitution, and the institutions he feels he has dedicated his life's work to. Those are the reasons I would be PO'd for, and I am.

I think that after seeing what they did to Brett Kavanaugh, the Republicans finally are seeing the nastiness of the dems after all these years. It was a wake up call for them.

They have seen that nastiness for decades.

They have been unable to effectively resist it, because the Media held them in its power.

Now, President Trump has shown they can throw off the Media yoke.

While I’m anxious to hear how this is going to be resolved, I trust that McConnell is not going to be out maneuvered by Pelosi.

Dismissal is totally an option. If you listened to McConnell’s speech that is what he is telegraphing when he said “the article’s of impeachment are constitutionally incoherent” . Look for a one day deal where each side presents its case then they vote to dismiss. There will be no trial.
