"(praise of Trump by faint damning) ... None of these things, none of them is unprecedented ... It will be a Constitutional crisis if we had the House a vote of no confidence ... Any future House can rush through and paralyze the Senate, House can do that at will under this precedent ... 2nd and 3rd hand testimony from unelected civil servants overturns a vote ... this moment requires the Senate to fulfill their founding purpose ... the long view ... stability ... against hysteria ... to keep partisan passions from boiling over ... That's why this body has the ultimate say."

"Hamilton says, political judgment about what best outcomes a nation deserves ... as grave as assignment ... only the Senate could handle it ... the moment the Framers feared has arrived ... a political faction in the lower chamber have succumbed to a partisan rage ... Hamilton: the decision will be regulated by the comparative strength of parties rather than innocence or guilt ... the Senate must put this right ... There is only one outcome that is suited to this paucity of evidence! Only one outcome!"

This was a great speech only marred by his decision not to say therefore we will take a boat right now to reject acceptance of these articles

Apparently, the time is not now McConnell laid out the case. Then did nothing. He sure is good at that. Isn’t, he?

Cmon, Mitch, lets hear you END IT.
Agree. He built the case. Then did nothing. No announcemnet of any kind. Typical for the do-nothing GOP Senate. In the end it was just more hot air gum flapping from the useless GOP Senate. To quote POTUS: “When are the GOP going to start fighting back?” Apparently, never.

Well stated. The more we learn, the more we see how weak McCain, Romney, Ryan actually were and there would have been little real change.
Trump is a doer. He’s a fighter for all, in spite of the Dems attempts to split the country.
Pray for his re election and justice to be rendered upon the vampires in political office who have been feeding off our tax dollars for years.

My hope is that when the Senate actually receives the articles, McConnell will have a vote to reject them. His speech today appears to set the foundation for that vote.
Good speech, but I could only listen for so long.
Congress needs a better dental plan.
Or, these old fogeys need to let some younger folks speak.

So San Fran Nan runs the Senate now? Interesting, I wasn’t aware of that. McConnnell is under no obligation to allow the Democrats to assault POTUS at their leisure. It bares repeating since POTUS said it: “When is the GOP going to start fighting back?”

No articles have been sent yet, I guess that’s why he did that. I hold out some hope they’ll be dismissed outright but his words “Senate must fulfill its duty” makes me concerned he’s going to let it play out.

McConnell’s speech today seemed to be pro forma Senate gasbaggery. Totally unacceptable given the historic nature of the event.

I don’t think he can respond more than this without the house sending their mess.

I think it was one of the best Senate searches I’ve ever heard.
