A lot of northerners said the same thing about the southern states in April of 1861.

If the Scots want to secede from the UK (And they hate the English) the only way they can do it is with EU welfare money that will have to replace the welfare money they presently get from London. Popcorn needed!

Nations are never meant to expand forever.

Look for CA to try to secede if Trump wins in 2020.

It's too late for that to do any good. Filthy kalifornians have invaded every decent state in the nation and, as usual, everything they touch turns to garbage.

If kali would secede and if other states could deport kalifornians, that could work.

If you can’t beat ‘em, quit. Look for CA to try to secede if Trump wins in 2020.

Why would CA secede after seeing VA turn blue almost certainly for good? Makes no sense.

Why would the EU want anything to do with Scotland?

Lots of offshore oil and gas.

I don’t think Brexit and the Conservative victory necessarily make Scottish independence more likely. So the UK and Europe are dissolving their national borders and identities. As an independence-minded Scot, you make say, “cool, I keep all my UK business, privileges, etc., but now I can ALSO do business more easily with France, visit Greece, etc.”

Now the U.K. decides NOT to be in the E.U. Does leaving the U.K. help your business? Now you have to choose between a nation much larger than yours right next to you, or an even larger nation on the other side of it.

The first great secessionist cause was the Revolution, when the 13 American colonies declared and won independence from the British crown.

It is solemnly declared today that our Revolution was about ideas, such as the equality of all men. But the author of the Declaration did not believe in equality.

Jefferson was a Virginia plantation owner, some of whose slaves were with him in Philadelphia. He described Native Americans in the Declaration as "merciless Indian Savages." The British are fraternally called "brethren" with whom we share "ties of a common kindred," but who have been "deaf to the voice of consanguinity."

For heaven’s sake Pat, get a grip.

Our Founders recognized the evils of slavery, but slavery was an existing problem, that could not be addressed at the time of our founding, or the nation would not have been formed do to opposition to ending slavery in some of the original colonies, and slavery would have continued on anyway.

Our founding documents laid the basis for addressing slavery later on, with language declaring ALL men (mankind) created equal.

Lest anyone forget, the U. S. accounted for less than 5% of all slaves globally, and yet the U. S. is singled out time and again as if it were the scourge of the planet due to slavery here. Nonsense!

Comments like these bolster the race baiting class, and are thus very destructive. We SHOULD NOT make comments that bolster the case for anti-Americans amongst us.

I have good friends who emigrated here from Scotland in the 1970s...they saw the Socialism then...and wanted nothing of it.

Scotland’s not going anywhere. Boris says “no”, the Scottish women bitch for awhile, then they get preoccupied with the upcoming Alex Salmon “me too” trial, then Boris hands them the bill and they duck and cover.

To answer the question. It will never end till the system is completely broken and rebuilt.

In the 60’s I worked with a guy who made the statement. “Give some people a little power and they go haywire.”

We were working construction under the foremen who retired from the military after 20 yrs as a Private. He finally had people under him. Imagine the chaos.

We’ve done the same thing in the guberment. Elected people because they had a good gift of gab but no brains to back it up. Being elected they have convinced themselves they are smarter than the rest of us. They get bought and sold ending up rich while the rest of us pay through the nose.

It simply does not compute.

Why not? The Scots have been fighting to get free of England for four hundred years

The principle for which we contend is bound to reassert itself, though it may be at another time and in another form.

Be careful what you wish for. Seven of the ten states that pay more federal taxes than they receive are those coastal states. Six of the ten states that receive more than they pay are southern states.

When did secessionism begin? The Americans started it all.

Really?

Halicarnassus might beg to differ.

The Songhai might as well.

In fact lots of regions through out history have declared themselves independent of their ruling state.

He gets a lot of things wrong i this article. One of the most glaring is calling our revolution a secession. It was a rebellion.
