White House counselor Kellyanne Conway told reporters Monday that the White House sees no reason for acting chief of staff Mick Mulvaney and three other witnesses to testify at a Senate impeachment trial, as requested by the top Democrat in the Senate.
We dont do things just because Sen. [Chuck] Schumer asks us to do them. Thats very clear, Conway told reporters at the White House Monday evening. Starting on Oc. 8, our White House counsel made very clear that he looks at the entire process as unconstitutional, illegitimate, and ill-conceived.
There is no reason for them to go and testify in the Senate trial, as far as we can see. Maybe someone will change their mind, but we havent done that, Conway continued. Why would we do that?
Conway was asked to respond to a request from Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) that Mulvaney, former national security adviser John Bolton, senior Mulvaney adviser Robert Blair and Office of Management and Budget official Michael Duffey be called to testify as part of the Senate trial.
Schumer outlined the request in a letter to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) sent Sunday. The top Democrat also requested that the Senate issue subpoenas for a limited set of documents that could shed more light on the Trump administrations decision to delay military assistance to Ukraine an issue at the center of House Democrats impeachment inquiry.
Schumer elaborated on his request during a news conference on Monday, criticizing McConnell for what he described as a partisan description of the Senate trial. McConnell said in an interview last week that he would be in total coordination with the White House with respect to the trial.
Conway said Monday that she didnt know if Trump and McConnell had spoken directly about a likely impeachment trial, though she noted they speak frequently about various issues.
The Democrat-controlled House is poised to vote later this week on two articles of impeachment against Trump stemming from his dealings with Ukraine. The House Judiciary Committee approved articles accusing Trump of abusing his office and obstructing Congress in a party-line vote last week.
The House is widely expected to impeach Trump, after which the articles would advance to the GOP-controlled Senate for a trial. Trump and his advisers view the Senate as friendly territory, where it is near certain Trump will be acquitted.
At the center of the inquiry is a July 25 call during which Trump asked Ukraines president to investigate former Vice President Joe Biden and his son Hunters dealings in Ukraine. House Democrats have accused Trump of using military aid to Ukraine and a White House meeting to pressure Kyiv for investigations that could benefit him politically.
The White House has cast the impeachment inquiry as illegitimate and politically-motivated, refusing to provide documents pursuant to subpoenas and instructing executive branch witnesses including Mulvaney, Bolton, Blair and Duffey not to testify.
Good for Kellyanne Conway!
One of the great mysteries of life, which I hope will one day be revealed, is how this lady is so great and yet married such a piece of sh!t as George.
1. The House "prosecutors" will not call any witnesses who have not already provided sworn testimony to any of the House committees involved in this farce.
2. The House "prosecutors" will turn over complete, unredacted transcripts of any testimony given by ANY witnesses to these committees behind closed doors.
3. If the House "prosecutors" fail to meet the condition outlined in #2, then NO witnesses may be called by the House managers, and any opening statements they make will also be deemed to be their "closing arguments" in this trial.
Agreed, I’d love to get the answer to that too.
Hold that determination!
Schumer and his “demands” must fall on deaf ears!
I dont mind bowing to the Democrats.
I just turn my back to them and then bow.
Those Democrat crooks can kiss my ass.
Amen! I couldn’t agree more.
That is too calm an answer... the answer is NO... NO way in hill!! get used to it... “you are not controlling this one!”
Don’t quibble.. NO and GET LOST!
Most of the country is also trying to figure those two out.
There was a portrayal on SNL last week.
Usually, I have no use whatsoever for their ‘comedy’, but from what I read about the skits, some parts really were amusing. I still wish she’d either get him under control, or leave that position and still advise the president.
The problem is, almost nobody does it (defending and defining the president’s points) better than Kellyanne. Especially now that Sarah Sanders has left. Pompeo is good too, but I get the impression he is preparing to leave the administration and run for the Senate.
Good. Ignore these bastards. Trump should tell Schumer to go Schiff himself with a sharp object.
Boom!
In your face democRATS!
Ive been waiting for this.
Love it!
Lets Wrap This FReepathon Up, Folks Donate Today!
It really peeves me that so many idiots out there refer to Democrats as the “Democratic Party”. It is the DEMOCRAT Party and there is NOTHING democratic about those b@st@rds.
Bump!
My hope is that her husband is a showman, adding drama and distraction as part of a plan that I simply don't understand. That would be amusing, so it's a shame that it's probably not true. Still it would be nice to hear eventually that they have been laughing about this nonsense all year while his comments get the chattering classes excited over the status of her marriage and distracted from the real progress that President Trump is making on judges and on border security.
We dont do things just because Sen. [Chuck] Schumer asks us to do them. Thats very clear,
Totally agreed. She sounds in top form in this story.
George Conway is a total disgrace. Even if I didn’t agree with my spouse’s politics, I would keep it private. Constantly trying to embarrass her in public is the act of a total cad.
That brings up one of life’s biggest questions: Why is it that so many fine women go for bums?
Do the research. Check the partys website, their Federal Election Commission filings, and even the party affiliation listed on any sample ballot from the last election.
Its the Democratic Party, regardless of what you may have read somewhere on the internet.
