Most of the people whom I like or trust believe—and believe rather strongly—that what Trump has done rises to a crime. For them, the analysis of whether Trump should be impeached can’t help but be informed by their view that Trump represents an existential threat to the country. If he might damage American democracy at some fundamental level, without any obvious recourse, then pursuing his removal from office would seem to go without saying. That he is in a position to win again in 2020 and serve another four years makes impeachment all the more urgent.

And this is why I’m torn. Democrats had to do something. The president has been wrong and done wrong, and his misdeeds must be recorded somehow. There is something to be said for upholding basic constitutional principles, irrespective of outcome, especially when future scenarios can comfortably remain in the realm of the imagined. God I HATE HATE HATE these slime. There is nothing impeachable about this and they know it. They don’t think hiring a foreign agent who got fed Russian disinformation that our own government intelligence and law enforcement agencies used to target the opposition campaign is a crime. This is a crime prima facie - perhaps has high as sedition.
Keep deluding yourselves fools. If the anger of the electorate is anywhere near what I’m feeling these days, it’s going to be a landslide of epic proportions across the board come next November.

Rush put it pretty well today. The only people that can remove Trump from office are Republicans. The Dems can’t do it. The Senate Republicans are the only way. They have to vote to convict. That is it. The consequences of that opens a target rich environment for half of the country’s voters that voted for Trump that support the 2nd amendment and are owners of a lot of ordnance. Don’t Tread On Me comes to mind.
I’m a big fan of a politicized and completely ineffective impeachment. President Trump’s reelection is the last, best hope for America short of a second civil war. Given how terrible that war is almost certain to be, I’ll take any path that may reduce the risk of so many deaths (tens of millions of democrats, but far too many good people too).
