Revelations that the FBI committed serious errors in wiretapping a former Trump campaign aide have spurred bipartisan calls for change to the government's surveillance powers, including from some Republicans who in the past have voted to renew or expand those powers.
Anger over the errors cited in this week's Justice Department's inspector general's report of the Russia investigation has produced rare consensus from Democrats and Republicans who otherwise have had sharply different interpretations of the report's findings. The report said the FBI was justified in investigating ties between the campaign and Russia, but criticized how the investigation was conducted.
The report cited flaws and omissions in the government's warrant applications under the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, documenting problems with a surveillance program that Democrats and civil libertarians have long maintained is opaque, intrusive and operates with minimal oversight.
They now have been joined by Republicans who are irate that FBI officials withheld key information from judges when they applied to eavesdrop on former Trump aide Carter Page."I'm still trying to get my arms around the proposition that a whole bunch of conservative Republicans who've logged years blocking bipartisan FISA reforms are now somehow privacy hawks," said Sen. Ron Wyden, D-Ore.
It's unclear what steps, if any, Congress could or will take to rein in the FBI's power under the surveillance law, and it remains to be seen whether outrage over the way a Trump ally was treated will extend to less overtly political investigations.

wow. WaPo/Tucker can twist even this into a pro-Dem story???
FakeNews - your time is up.
Serious Errors?
How about serious felonies...
Q1 Are the FISA court judges angry?
Q2 Is it time to abolish the FISA court?

NO.
The abusers of the process have to be punished.
These are BIG people that attest to these FISA requests.
If they’re appropriately punished, the process can be effecrive
If they’re not punished no changes will make a difference.
All we need is a Democrat president and voila...
Yes, it’s clear a few mistakes were made.
I’ll be a happy man if new/repealed laws come about which totally gut the NSA, removing all domestic CAPABILITY, and also take that domestic capability from CIA and FBI.
A complete repeal of The Patriot Act and its progeny is a good start.
Just after they hang the leaders of the coup, and imprison their collaborators.
if the rules aren’t enforced, NO ONE is going to follow them.
IIRC the US AG, or one of his top assistants has to sign off on these.
Maybe also a top person in Intelligence can, not sure.
People who don’t want trouble.
Anyway, they have to be held accountable.
I think the FBI should start a FISA on every member of the WP.
Imagine the things that we could learn about the criminal deep state.
“Yes, its clear a few mistakes were made.”
Oh yes we must fix this and make damn sure a Republican never does it, so the Rats get a mulligan and get away with using the intelligence service in an attempt to stop an opposition party from winning.
The very fist thing that should be done is audio recording of all FBI interviews. The FBI gets a copy, the interviewee gets a copy. None of this 302 garbage.
Fire Wray, yesterday.
I have three suggestions for those changes:
1.) Do not subvert a presidential campaign.
2.) Do not subvert a sitting president.
3.) Do not harass everyone associated with a sitting president.
