Officials said Saturday that Rep. Jeff Van Drew of New Jersey, a vocally anti-impeachment Democrat, will join the Republican Party in the coming days following a Friday meeting with President Trump a move that would put a political chill on the Democrats expected vote to impeach Trump next week.
Two Democratic officials familiar with Van Drews discussions in recent days said they believe he has decided to switch parties. The White House meeting was confirmed by a Trump administration official and one of the Democratic officials.

So is he another Romney?
Is he now pro-life?
Or does he just want to ensure re-election?

I don't live in his district but I am privy to some information that may not be widely known.
From what I've heard, Jeff Van Drew had the nerve to actually shake President Trump's hand at some kind of meeting involving the President and House members a few months ago ... and a bunch of radical leftists with advanced cases of TDS began giving him a ton of sh!t for it.
His old district in the New Jersey State Senate -- which he vacated when he won his current seat in the House of Representatives -- now has a Republican in it for the first time in two decades as a result of the special election last month to replace him.

Van Drew is free to switch parties, but short of the NJ GOP clearing the field for him to do so, he’s going to have a problem in the primary.

You would think maybe that Kendra Horn (D) from Oklahoma might convert as well. Her recent townhall was disastrous. To her credit she stood tall and took the criticism.

Richard Craig Shelby (born May 6, 1934) is an American politician serving as the senior United States Senator from Alabama....In 1978, he was elected from the 7th District to the United States House of Representatives, where he was among a group of Conservative Democrats known as the boll weevils.
In 1986, Shelby won a tight race as a Democrat for the U.S. Senate. In 1994, the day after the Republican Revolution in which the GOP gained the majority in Congress midway through President Bill Clinton's first term, Shelby switched party affiliations and became a Republican. Shelby was re-elected by a large margin in 1998 and has faced no significant electoral opposition since. He is currently the dean of the Alabama delegation.

I in no way believe the content of this (my own) post, but he could switch, vote Yes, and make it all “bipartisan”.

At least he's switching because of sincere policy disagreement with the RATS rather than because he can't get elected as a RAT in that district anymore or because there is no one running on the GOP side so he'll win the nomination automatically. I never trust party switchers who do so for tactical reasons. Hell, I still don't like Rick Perry, and he became a Republican DECADES ago.
Still, aside from being vehemently against impeachment, is there anything else the guy has in common with the GOP? I'd be wary of welcoming him with open arms. He better start VOTING like a Republican too.
