Big difference between a freshman switching parties to the minority vs. a sitting Agriculture Committee Chairman, as Collin Peterson is.

By NJ standards, that probably makes him a "conservative" RAT. Most of their RATs are hardcore commies and half of their "Republicans" are Democrat lite.

But overall, its pretty piss poor and just makes him a left-of-center liberal Democrat.

If he's officially switching parties, his views will probably "evolve" on a half dozen issues and end up in line with the GOP mainstream.

Still don't trust the guy, though. But to be fair, how conservative was Ben Nighthorse Campbell before he switched parties though? Probably to the left of this guy, and he turned out OK.

He’s to the left of LoBiondo, although he moved to the left-wing side by his last years in office (a paltry 46% and 37% Conservative in 2018 and 2017, respectively).

-- During his congressional primary campaign, Van Drew had a 100% rating from the National Rifle Association --

Yes, and much more in his record ... NRA, DCCC & Jeff Van Drew - versus - Tanzie Youngblood, Will Cunningham ...

Jeff Van Drew: NRA "A" Rating. NO on marriage equality. NO on Greenhouse Gas Initiative. NO on handgun buying limitations. NO on eliminating NJ's death penalty. NO on NJ providing sanctuary. NO to convert foreclosures to Terrible environmental record. Sponsored a bill to let New Jerseyans carry concealed handguns. Pro-pipeline through NJ's environmental treasure lands. Sponsored a proposed constitutional amendment to allow the state to require parental notification for abortions. But wait, there's more: ...

All safe positions to take in NJ because none of them will pass in NJ.

He's switching because he wants to be on the "big bucks" federal gravy train.

Republican seeking to challenge Van Drew raises nearly $413K

I live in his district. I called his office in Washington and reminded him this is Trump country. He’d better not vote against the President if he wants to keep his job. I also said I did not vote for him, and as long as he was a Democrat I never will.

This is very interesting.

OMG 30 points!!!!! That certainly would mean a death sentence for this dude. Just a simple mailer to the folks in that district from President Trump would probably do the trick.

Campbell was sort of all over the map. One year he’d be moderate, another left (when he was in the Dems). But when the Dems effed with his personal business, that estranged him from them and he pretty much got with the GOP program. As pointed out about Van Drew’s predecessor, LoBiondo, he had already moved into leftist RINO territory by his final year. I still think Van Drew will have a problem in the primary against one of the declared candidates who will point out he’s already pretty far on the left.

LoBiondo’s Dem predecessor, William Hughes (1975-95), who just died recently, was about as left-wing as Van Drew (had about a 19-20% Conservative rating) and even Rob Andrews had a 25%, and these were stalwart Dems. Shows how far the “mainstream” of the Dem party has moved hard core Communist when the former “liberals” have to leave for the GOP.

I don’t respect his changing parties mid-term. Voting with Rs is fine, but people in his district elected him as a Dem.

The Demonrats demand 100% loyalty to the coup d’état. If they don’t vote for the coup, they can hit the bricks.

I guess Democrat, Congressman, Jeff Van Drew took close and deep heed as to what happened politically to the Labor Party in the UK and its now totally failed, disgraced and resigned leader Jeremy Corbyn, including their now failed “Fake News” Media.

I suspect many Democrats will take full note of the massive political victory of POTUS Donald J. Trump’s buddy, Conservative Party UK Prime Minister, Boris Johnson. Today, the once powerful UK Labor Party is but a shadow of its former self. If I were Nancy Pelosi, Adama Schiff & Jerrold Nadler...I would be severely concerned.

I think the “Van Drew” party switch it true, is just the beginning of the failure of the USA Democrat Party, brought on by Pelosi, Schiff & Nadler. etc.!!!

If the Democrat Party has got any astute street smarts, whatsoever...they will withdraw the Trump Impeachment gig....like right now!!! Otherwise, come November, 2020 the Democrat Party will become a shadow of its former self...period!!!

Jack Kennedy was a Dem, too. Some folks are still Dems because they USED to be a lot more conservative than Bernie Sanders. Gotta at least see how he votes. Been both at one time or another, but I’m neither Dem nor Repub, these days. Most of the Republican party seems RINO to me.

I’d say the opposite. He’s a turncoat traitor. I wouldn’t trust him.

Nice to have him for the time being, but he ran as a DEM, won as a DEM, he’s a DEM.

Turncoat traitors are like Marco Rubio or John McCain or Mitt Romney

The ones who run as conservatives, get support from conservatives and do the opposite once they win their elections.

VanDrew is none of those things, he said he would not support impeachment, he isn’t supporting it, he said he would not vote for Nancy, he didn’t.

That’s not a turncoat, if he thinks he can represent his district better as a Republican, he should go for it. We should welcome a man like that into our party.

It takes a lot to buck a party as a freshman representative. It takes a ton of guts to be in his position.

Besides South Jersey Dems represent blue collar working districts, they are nothing like the commie dems in the northern part of the state.

Steve Sweeney is a blue dog dem in the NJ state house, he got more done and got along better with Chris Christie then he can do with Phil Murphy. Because Sweeney is NOT a social justice warrior and doesn’t believe in the leftist communist nonsense that Phil Murphy does. Sweeney is a blue collar union guy and that is where he gets his support from.

VanDrew is in a similar situation, the left went way too far left and he is abandoned by his own party, so he can either be the odd guy out in a party full of commies or join the republican party where he can compromise with.

Van Drew says “screw this” and joins the GOP. Thoughts?

Now there's one more Democrat in the Republican Party...Will he switch back after the next election???

As much as I like the poke in the eye of the Democrat party...

Will this guy make a good Republican or another RINO. He looks like a mixed bag. Mixed enough that he should be primaried with someone more conservative. Most issues they didn't have an opinion.
