All across the Commonwealth of Kentucky, people are lashing out at their former governor for his controversial pardons and commutations.

Before leaving office, Matt Bevin issued more than 400 of them.

Some, including the case of a convicted child rapist in Kenton County, have created a firestorm of anger.

Discussions are underway among some lawmakers to determine if anything can be done about it.

Bevin proved himself to be a total scumbag by doing this. Hopefully his career in electoral politics is finished.

Bevin upset too many conservative voters but there’s a lesson here for them: Democrats don’t represent you, your values and your interests.

You have idiots in KY who actually believed the Democrat candidate for Governor was a conservative.

Those old school Democrats are now extinct.

Given that this is reported by typical leftist media, there is most likely another side, e.g. most of the offenses were minor, and/or all them fixed legal screwups. Throw in a child molester for proper effect, even though wrongly tried and convicted.

Nothing GOP lawmakers in Frankfort can do about it. The pardoning power is absolute.

They could impeach Bevin over it but it belongs to the museum of lost causes: he’s leaving office anyway.

And he can tell his self-righteous critics to shove it. You don’t have Bevin to kick around anymore.

Bevin is the conservative Republican Governor who was narrowly defeated in the election but who has not yet left office. See post 7.

Yes but they still voted for a Democrat. Democrats aren’t our friends. QED.

I dream there could be a Bureau of Corruption Investigation, like the FBI but focused on arresting politicians and government workers of every level - city, state, federal. There would also need to have courts set aside for the trials. All political immunity would be canceled.

Unlike the FBI and federal courts, this bureau and these courts would be specially vetted and trained against corruption and partisanship. In fact, the anti-corruption school could be a requirement for politicians and government workers as well before they start. Throw in a mandatory course on the US Constitution for everyone. The BCI would have to retake the courses every 3 years.

In my dream the BCI would run stings and undercover operations as well as audits and open investigation. Even if a city government and all its courts were corrupt the BCI could get them. The United States would end up with the most honest government in the world.

But I'll never see more than the dream.

Actually some of them were quite serious, including murders. There's another thread around here where the story lists names and their offenses......

Government in the United States is all about checks and balances. Yet a governor (or president) can pardon someone without any check.

I never understood why that is allowed, as it gives the executive a king-like power. A legislature should be able to override a pardon, much like it can override a veto.

I live in Kentucky and short of pulling the case of each individual pardoned, I have no idea who or why they were pardoned. Three things I do know: Bevin was the best and most God fearing governor we’ve had in my lifetime, the election was stolen from him and every outraged story about this comes from the lying, scumbag, fake news media.

https://www.wcpo.com/news/local-news/kenton-county/bevin-pardons-convicted-child-rapist-from-kenton-county

The middle-school student who first accused Schoettle in 2016 told Florence police he had repeatedly sexually assaulted her since she was 9 years old.

Though a jury convicted Schoettle of rape, sodomy and sexual abuse in 2018, he walked free with the governor’s pardon Wednesday.

When the victim’s mother learned of Schoettle’s release from Green River Correctional Center, she struggled to find the words to explain what happened to her daughter.

“’Well, it figures. They always get away with it,’” she recalled her daughter saying.

In the pardon, Bevin wrote that the case relied on more testimony than physical evidence, and he did not believe the victim’s accusations were true, the Associated Press reports.

“[Bevin has] met my daughter, and now he’s saying that my daughter is a liar ... Shame on him. Shame on him,” she said.

On the scale of things, the outrage is fake, even though the felons getting off are real people.

Here in Texas, our big-city counties are now run by Soros Democrats who are in the ‘social-justice’ motif, and they simply WILL NOT jail felons, to the point of putting ankle bracelets on people accused of murder. We’re doing it by the thousands, maybe ten thousands, state-wide.

...but no bitching by the Left regarding these judges/prosecutors, since the ones destroying our society are the Leftists here.

I am not going to argue that point. All I’m saying is that Bevin was always about Bevin. I don’t think he was ever a very good candidate.

It’s a given that politicians are vain and self-obsessed. Bevin, however, appears to be a much bigger jerk than the run of the mill Republican, although Democrats like him are a dime a dozen.
