Behind the Tory blowout: Why British conservatives dominated this election
NY Post ^ | December 12 2019 | Charles C.W. Cooke

There is no better word to describe the scale of the Conservative Party’s victory in Britain’s general election Thursday than “blowout.” This was a mauling. A drubbing. A pummeling of historic proportions and surprising depth.

If early returns hold up, the Tories have won over 150 more seats than the Labour Party and are on course for a majority of around 65. To grasp just how badly Labour has performed, consider that the party’s last famous defeat, in 1983, was less substantial.

That year, Labour was led over the cliff by Michael Foot, whose hard-left election manifesto has become known as the “longest suicide note in history.” Somehow, Jeremy Corbyn has managed to outdo even that, losing not only the middle classes but a host of traditional Labour constituencies as well.

While Trump may have had some influence on the numbers, British Parliament has had conservative majority for 9 or 10 years

“longest suicide note in history.”

When the Green New Deal resolution was brought up for a vote in the Senate, even Ed Markey, who had introduced it, refused to vote for it. The Democrats couldn't even vote their impeachment resolution out of committee.

You hear the Democrats realizing the Swamp can be drained. And they are the Swamp.

Don’tcha know that graphic is “anti-Semitic”?

I read it yesterday.

Any criticism of Soros is “anti-Semitic”.

Oh please. I am astounded by how many otherwise intelligent and well informed FReepers have gotten sucked into this Romper Room Non Impeachment folly.

It’s just another *oh, noes, this is IT! He’s really toast THIS time*.

This has been low comedy from the jump. The only problem I have with it is that we won’t be reimbursed.

And, I’m sorry that it will end too soon.

ScatFranNan and Nadler may as well open Trump 2020 offices in January.

So much for those “too close to call” polls that came out before the election.

Watched the results and the Scottish Communist Party - er, I meant the Scottish National Party - flipped lots of Conservative seats in Scotland...about the only bad news on the election.

Six months ago, in a breakfast conversation in a London hostel, the British bartender, a German guest and I had a conversation about Brexit. The German could not understand why GB would want to leave the EU and chance an economically difficult withdrawal period. After she left, the young bartender and I agreed that GB is a historically great country which has weathered a great many storms and should not be led around by the nose by historically loser countries like Germany and France.

People in GB see what out of control sudden immigration has done to these EU countries. GB has a diverse and well integrated populace that has developed over time, pulling from former colonies where the people have some history with the British way of life. Most of all, the people wanting to leave the EU chafed at being told what to do by unaccountable toffs from Brussels. When I first visited London in 1995, the GBP cost me $1.95. Now thanks to EU policies, it only costs me $1.35.

It’s past time for GB to reclaim its sovereignty and well wishes to them.

“...They are waking up to the fact that their lives are being ruined and futures destroyed by the same class of corrupt and treasonous ideologues that Trump is dealing with....”

Post of the week. You described the situation perfectly.

People fail to realize that Socialism is a world-wide conspiracy, always HAS been, and these people - whether calling selves British, Germans, New Zealanders, etc - are all Socialist/Progressive/lib/ whatever first, and nationality second.

Trump was/is a Wake-up call to people all over the world who love THEIR own Countries, culture, traditions, and heritage.

You either stand up and FIGHT for what you say you believe, or you lie down and get overrun.

Good on ya Britain. Let’s all help make Britain “Great” again. Brexit is the first step.

This is all because of Donald Trump. The political movement he set in motion is taking root world wide.

The Brits voted to Brexit a couple of months before he was elected. But I'll concede he's a major driving force.

If you look back, Donald Trump was in Britain and really pushed Brexit before he was even elected.

He was definitely a significant factor
