It's looking like a conservative landslide.

You don’t vote for the Prime Minister. You vote a party and they choose the head of rheir party. This is what Democrats want in our country. A European style democracy with no electoral college.
I don’t subscribe to the New York Times but I am checking their election meter. It doesn’t say where the seats are it just says which party takes over that seat.
Labour with 5 seats to Tories 1 but there are 650 total seats to go. People more in the know than I am are saying it is expected Labour would win these seats.
BBC commentators are all crying!
Equivalent to out Congress but in this case whoever is chosen to be the party leader (or as in Johnson’s case already is!) is the PM. PM is sort of like a combination of our Speaker of the House & President, combines legislative & executive power into one position. (Frightening thought Pelosi being anywhere near actual executive power!)
lol.... good.
I’d rather see that than Don Lemon and his dour mug all over the TV.
Has the BBC called for the impeaching of Boris yet ?
I know Canadians who hate their parliamentary system. The biggest flaw as they see it is that they may like Candidate A in their local race for Parliament, but they dont want to vote for him/her because they prefer the Prime Minister from Candidate Bs party.
Thanks. The night is young.
How much of a majority were the conservatives expected to have before the voting began? (NOT the exit poll that began after voting did)
That was once an extremely safe Labor seat. These were solid working-class labor constituencies since the 1930’s.
What happened was that Brexit (probably) appealed to old Labor voters in a way that the Conservatives could not. Labor, the party, contrariwise betrayed these old Labor voters by opposing Brexit.
Re Labor vs Conservatives, we are talking a century of bad blood and tribalism by social class that are vastly more significant than in the US. Orwell’s “Wigan Pier” scale of bad blood. Voting conservative, its a tough sell.
Brexit as a party and an issue moved these people, up to a third of them, away from Labor by giving them something proletarian they could vote for.
Farage and the Brexit party did good. Without winning a seat they reorganized British politics.
It is an ancient Labor area - you are seeing results from the Northern English rustbelt.
Ah, to hear the lamentation of their women!
The betting was 340-350
The polls varied a great deal but some of the last pre-election ones were suggesting a majority of low single digits to perhaps twenty. There were a lot of fears that if the polls were off by even a bit, there could be a hung parliament that might allow Corbyn to form a coalition government with the Liberal Democrats and the SNP.
thank you
Does someone have an online link for the BBC broadcast
Truth is stranger than your irony. The Guardian indeed says that Russia has groomed Boris Johnson for five years.
thank you
That is the next step the leftists are moving toward throughout the West. They try to make it so the election itself is illegitimate because of some bugaboo they invent. Examples include “racism,” “foreign interference,” “illegal influence,” “hate mongering,” etc.
We are moving toward a future where the left no longer tolerates elections that thwart their will. Virtually anything that leans conservative in the future will be labelled racist, hate speech, unjust, etc. and thus illegitimate.
The live coverage is a delicious listen. Reminiscent of Trump’s big night.
