Conservative Leader Andrew Scheer resigns, vows to stay on until new leader chosen

Conservative Party Leader Andrew Scheer is resigning.

But he says he will stay on as leader until his replacement is chosen and continue to serve as MP for Regina—Qu’Appelle.

His resignation comes as a direct result of new revelations that he was using Conservative Party money to pay for his children’s private schooling, according to Conservative sources who spoke with Global News.

Senior Conservatives say the expenditures were made without the knowledge or approval of the Conservative fund board, including the chair of the board.

There are also calls for the party’s executive director, Dustin van Vugt, to resign over the decision to pay the schooling expenses.

Typical 'professional politician', in it for what he/she/it can get. At least he was smart enough to resign when he got caught with his hand in the cookie jar. Our Prime Minister Mistake however, sees gubmint money as his to spend as he sees fit. Build the economy? Why? Alberta has money, too much money! They need a good fleecing! We, the taxpayer, are merely his personal ATM. Yuck fou Justin(e)!

No wonder Scheer fought the last election campaign like a 95 year old, 98 pound weakling with both arms tied behind his back! Obviously, the Lieberals had the goods on him and threatened release during the campaign. It's over, and they leaked it.

Kanadahar needs a REAL fighter, not a milquetoast little boy, like Scheer was! Hopefully, there is SOMEONE, a Trump-like figure, who can ignite the voters of this country, to toss True-dope next election AND pursue CRIMINAL CHARGES against him and his crooked henchmen/yes men!

I rather liked Maxime Bernier. He heads up the People’s Party.

I agree. Bernier was the only ‘conservative’ of the bunch. The People’s Party of Canada’s candidate in my riding got my vote. He failed to elected.

Part of the problem with Bernier is his accent. After so many Quebecers having been PM, and how they screwed Canada, there is a fear amongst conservatives of electing another Quebecer. I believe that his accent cost him at least 15 seats, outside of Quebec.

I agree - it was because he is French Canadian. I followed his tweets and thought he was very well spoken and quite bold. I voted for the candidate in my riding as well.

Mr Wonderful would be a great replacement for the Conservative Party.

I hoped he would win the Conservative leadership but he turned out to be a sore loser who started a minor vote splitting party.

See Jean Chrienten’s victories for what happens when the right in Canada splits it’s vote.

Of course Scheer is obviously a douchebag as well. Lame.

Next leader will probably be to the left of Scheer, who was hammered for being personally socially conservative.

We will probably never get an actual conservative in Canada. Conservative Lite is about the best they will come up with there. I still think the Canuk conservatives are miles ahead of what passes for "conservative" in western European countries like France and Germany. For example, Nicholas "Obama isn't liberal enough on global warming" Sarkozy is the "most conservative" leader France has had, I'd hate to see the least conservative one.

Instead of Andrew Scheer stepping down as party leader, I wish Netanyahu in Israel would do so because he's become a real liability there, and I fear having him as the head of the ticket will drag down the rest of the conservative movement in the next Israeli election. He's now 70 and has been the longest serving PM in Israeli history, that's nothing to be ashamed of, time to let it go and move on. Too many FReepers still adore him and don't realize HIS "conservative" party is anything but.

On a side note, every time we discuss Canuk politics, we should remind people that Trudeau LOST the "popular vote" to Scheer. Deafening silence from the libs on that one, even though they go ballistic when the reverse happens and say its a travesty if the person with LESS votes gets elected and no modern democracy should allow that and blah blah blah. The hypocrisy on the left is sickening.
