Republican Rep. Ted Yoho of Florida announced Tuesday that he will not seek another term, saying he never meant to spend more than eight years in Congress. Democrats seized upon the news as a sign of weakening morale among the GOP.
Yoho, who aligned himself with the Tea Party faction of the Republican Party and has been a fierce supporter of President Donald Trump, joins at least 27 House Republicans in announcing their departures from the U.S. House.
Of those, 23 aren't seeking reelection, while three have resigned and already left Congress. And one — California Rep. Duncan Hunter — has said he is resigning and will leave the House shortly after the holidays.
Yoho broke the news in a letter to supporters on Tuesday, reminding them that he had pledged to serve just four terms.
“I truly believe a person's word is their bond and should live up to their word," he said. “I also meant that after eight years I would come home and pass the baton to a new generation.”

Was it 2018 in which 40 retired? We lost the majority then. I guess these guys want us to continue as the minority in the House.

He’s keeping his word and term-limiting himself. He has been a good representative and I hope his successor fits the same mold.
Some are old boomers that need to go. If we can get some young conservatives in there, it’d be good for the party and United States.

I don’t believe in term limits, it’s too easy for the swamp to find corrupt people and too hard for us to find good people.

Yoho is 64 and, with five years of service accrued, he gets to retire with a full pension. Why stay?

I’m glad to see politicians move on. It was never meant to be a retire home. Now, the folks on the D side, need to wake up and tell their fixtures to pack up and leave.
He gets an 8 year pension. It'll probably be around $23,500 a year, give or take.

It depends on why he’s leaving.
And anyone who trusts a state’s GOP, any state’s GOP, to pick a good candidate needs his head examined.
Conservatives need to find and run their own candidates. And find DINOs to run in ‘Rat primaries.

There is a widespread myth that members of Congress and Senators receive their salaries FOR LIFE... In fact, they have a very good pension plan but, it is the same as countless federal employees.
For Yoho there's one plan, and he'll get approximately what I quoted. He's covered by the FERS, as is any Congressman who took office after 1986.
Our source is the same but we are relying on different passages. The Congressional pension available to Yoho is as I describe. It is part of the Federal Retirement System but is far more generous than the standard federal employee pension. Calling then “the same” is like calling a Honda Civic and a Rolls Phantom the same because they are both automobiles.
As a former member of Congress, Yoho may be in FRS but accrued benefits at a far higher rate than ordinary federal employees. The average federal employee does not vest a full pension after five years, accessible on retirement at 62. Yoho and other members of Congress have that.
