In his inaugural address, Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear said he will file an executive order this week restoring the voting rights of many convicted felons who are currently disenfranchised under state law.
My faith teaches me to treat others with dignity and respect, the new Democratic governor told his audience outside the state Capitol. My faith also teachers forgiveness.
Thats why on Thursday I will sign an executive order restoring voting rights to over a hundred thousand men and women who have done wrong in the past but are doing right now. They deserve to participate in our great democracy, Beshear said.
The speech offered no details about Beshears forthcoming order, which felons would be covered or how the restoration process would work.
Of the 50 states, only Kentucky and Iowa still deny the right to vote to anyone convicted of a felony. Iowas governor is calling for a constitutional amendment to restore voting rights to felons in her state.
Kentucky has an estimated 242,000 felons who are disenfranchised despite having completed their sentences, according to a 2016 report by the Sentencing Project, a criminal-justice reform advocacy group. That includes one in every four of the states African-American adults, according to the report.
Under Kentuckys Constitution, voting rights can be restored solely by the governor.

Do they get gun right also?
Now _that_ is what election interference looks like!
This is what happens when you elect Democrats!
“That includes one in every four of the states African-American adults, according to the report. “
There’s the real reason NOT the Governors ‘faith’.
That didn’t take long. Literally one of his first acts is to add more illegal dem voters.
Good! It is what the voters wanted. They had a choice and they chose.
Hey, what about us dead people?
Probably not. They only want their votes.
Gotta get those DemonRAT votes.
Amen. But the people never learn.
Lol. Ex-cons don’t particularly vote RAT. Few vote at all. You need to find some other way to fix the elections. You POS.
If voters are experiencing buyer’s remorse, they can always recall the expletive-deleted.
Aided and abetted by liberaltarians also.
You get what you vote for....good and hard.
I’m confused..this is Kentucky right? Didn’t know Dems were all that popular there.
I think 48 other states are already doing this. So I think the union can withstand it.
It shouldn’t affect any elections, because they’ve probably been voting for years!
Again, that is what the people voted for. They had a choice to make and they made it. I hope they enjoy it. About like one enjoys a social disease.
You are right about that.
