It is amazing that after 5 Billion years since its birth, planet earth is still 90% molten Lava in its belly.
Uh-oh. That will be the next BIG thing....global core cooling!.....We need money to fight it

7920 miles dia of planet earth
Earth’s crust is 5 miles deep under oceans, and 25 miles under continents.
Volume of sphere = 4/3 x Pi x R**3
Volume below the rocky crust based on average diameter of
7920 - 30 = 7890 miles
Which then computes the earth’s crust as 1.132% of
earths’s total volume.
Which means 98.868% of earth is below the solid crust outer shell.

That's terrible, but not unexpected. On one of the vids, unnamed employees of the park service or something had been cited as having said, it was the worst eruption they'd seen in their careers. The volcano erupts every couple of years apparently.

Why do TV producers think that it HAS to fill the edges of the screen with blurry stuff from the phone image!

There had been reports of earthquakes and steam outbursts. Scientists had warned of danger. Bad enough that they were allowed on the island, but to actually go down into the crater under those conditions—criminal negligence.

[ Scientists had warned of danger. ]
Oh my. I wonder if those people realized the danger before going in there.

I get the impression that the tour ship gave little information. Last I heard 5 dead and 8 still missing. I anticipate some nasty lawsuits for negligent homicide or other charges.
To: gleeaikin
wow, terrible
yes - negligent it could be

Compounded by utter stupidity by the tourists. All are definitely up for the Darwin Award for 2019.

Darwin Award indeed. Unlike the poor folks who risk living near an active volcano because the soil is rich, they are poor, and they don’t know how to plan the size of their families.
