Today, we hear our representatives (it seems increasingly less clear just whom they represent) frequently invoking the phrase "the American people." I ask, who are these American people whom politicians so flippantly feign to speak for?
[snip]Today, I see our country divided into many disparate social groups, presided over by egotistical, self-indulgent politicians. As a young man with many ethnic bloodlines running through my veins, I saw myself as an American first. Today, Americans identify predominantly by their ethnicities, pronouns, and gender preferences. We've become balkanized along the lines of sexual preferences and pronounced racial differences, and in place of a more perfect union, we're becoming splintered, apathetic, and divided. Our current leaders aren't doing anything to repair it. In many instances, they're exacerbating it.

Me. I’m an American People.
Try to take our guns and youll find out.

The seeds for all of this were laid by the KGB in the 40’s and 50’s, it’s all in the Congressional Record of 1963 Communist Goals.
As a Christian, I have a real problem identifying with today’s America. I stopped flying the American flag once the Supreme Court forced homosexual “marriage” on us. Both for abortion and now homosexuality, this country is under God’s judgment and has turned its back on Him.
Better question is: What Is An American.
That’s easy.
A person whose loyalty is to the Constitution of the United States of America.
I don’t care a person’s skin color, religion, national origin or anything else; do they regard the Constitution as not only the law of the land but as the ideal towards which all laws should be interpreted and applied.
Sigh...
The word you're looking for is 'deign'.
Exactly.
If you want to find America go watch some 50s movies...that was America. Don’t know what this all is we are residing in.
Excellent catch!
Also, you inject hope into my despair of seeing Freepers using such words and phrases as “then” instead of than, as well as the idiotic “I could care less”, and the new moronic low that is “should of”.
You are wrong. The word feign is appropriate in the context.
Correct, they pretend to speak for us.
Not really an “excellent catch!”
Feign is appropriate in the sentence. The word means “to give a false impression.” The politicians “flippantly give a false impression to speak for or that they can speak for...”
“Deign,” condescending or stooping works too.
Should of used a dictionary than./snark

Pardon me for the double play.
Feign
verb (used with object)
to represent fictitiously; put on an appearance of: to feign sickness.
to invent fictitiously or deceptively, as a story or an excuse.
to imitate deceptively: to feign another's voice.
verb (used without object)
to make believe; pretend: She's only feigning, she isn't really ill.
Per those definitions, the author used the word in the wrong context.
Bump
Now human liberties get synthesized into property as defined most immediately by John Locke and James Madison. Property is first of all sourced internally in individual self-protection, opinion, religion, communications, use of abilities to labor physically and mentally, and in conscience.
Only by possession and application of these inherent natural rights does one come to the external and more traditional definition of property involving those things which humans were to have dominion over ever since the Creation
Since the founding of the colonies and for all time Americans would be defined as sovereign individuals who find their identity in exercising pre-existing intangible liberties accompanied by the hazards and uncertainties of these personal freedoms. Their ethnicity, gender, class, and race would always be secondary expressions of humanity.
