The U.S. doesn’t have the capacity to supply Western Europe with enough LNG, yet. There there are many LNG docks currently under construction. Once they are up an running within the next year, Western Europe will have a reliable supplier of just about all their requirements.

That’s what Russia is really afraid of.

“Well Ted, Russia’s government isn’t actively committing genocide against it’s population like Germany is, maybe you should think things through.”

I was thinking along those lines too. Germany’s days as a German country are now numbered thanks to the ‘new arrivals’ that they invited in. We (the US) don’t seem to give a crap about that. Perhaps Russia might. Nothing to lose - let the Russians try applying some ‘tough love’, since Germany, as we know it will be gone by 2050 otherwise.

What a crock....we are upside down with Germany like we were with every one else. It would be a short war. They don’t pay their share for NATO either!!!

LOL. It would be a long war. Germany would no doubt engineer massive EU sanctions on US companies in reply. I was all for preventing Nordstream 2 but that boat sailed long ago.

Two tweets in a month? Impressive. I am surprised anybody would be trumpeting that. We are in deep trouble if that’s the best the GOP Senate can do in support of a GOP POTUS under treasonous assault.

Trump would agree with Cruz, if he could. Less than 6 months ago Trump asked the EU to purchase LNG from Israel. Israel now furnishes LNG to Egypt and the EU - in full operation for about one month. This has Russia worried. In fact Russia and China signed a pipeline agreement this week. This is interesting and is possibly what Cruz had in mind. Much is going on in Europe and the Middle East, yet no one here appears to be aware.

2. A Germany weakened by blackmail from Russia could be forced to sit on the sidelines of a major conflict or even forced not to allow American air power to transverse their airspace (US has 21 air bases in Germany) could be quite the work-around. Putin is a KGB dictator with nothing but the gathering wealth/power for him and his oligarchy.

Nothing is off the table with Putinist Russia. When things got hot in Ukraine one of Putin’s minions threatened to nuke Denmark of all places:

In August 2014, the Danish government announced that it would contribute to NATO’s missile defense shield by equipping one or more of its frigates with radar capacity, amid the Ukrainian crisis and growing tensions between Russia and NATO.[7] On March 22, 2015, the Russian ambassador to Denmark, Mikhail Vanin, confirmed the tensions during an interview to Jyllands-Posten: “I do not think Danes fully understand the consequences of what happens if Denmark joins the US-led missile defense. If this happens, Danish warships become targets for Russian nuclear missiles”. Denmark’s foreign minister, Martin Lidegaard, announced the ambassador’s remarks as unacceptable and that the defense system was not aimed at Russia, a claim echoed by NATO’s spokeswoman, Oana Lungescu. NATO’s spokesman added that the Russian statements “do not inspire confidence or contribute to predictability, peace or stability”.

The childiness of this thinking is really shocking.
Is Russia or Germany fighting to prevent US LNG development? :)

The biggest problem here is of moral nature.

The United States are lecturing the World about open markets and free enterprise but everywhere you look around for several decades it is US government which interfere with the market and often using ridiculous socialist the toric while at it.

Germany and Russia doesn’t care about US LNG projects and by the way Russia doesn’t care too.

Ten years ago when the talks of US LNG to Europe started Russia lacked any serious LNG capacity. Now it has developed it too and it surpassed US capacity. In fact Russian companies are using most of LNG terminals built under US programs everywhere and not the American. There were instances of them delivering LNG to US and then US companies are leasing Russian LNG tankers to deliver theirs.

It is a big complicated business involving humongous investments.
Nobody says US companies can’t work there. Offer enough capacity and a good price to start with.

Inventing political reasons to stop commercial rivals in a business you lack competence in is the very definition of fascism.
This stuff ruins the reputation of US as any serious and moral country.

That is especially important vis a vis Russia and Germany and especially Russia.

Reagan at the time persuaded Russia to drop Communism and adopt market system. US has no business to interfere with Russia doing business using open markets otherwise it gives fuel to the critics of free market and free enterprise who are hinting that none of that exists but only the tool US uses to pull down other countries.

It is another nail into a coffin of freedom and current world order and it seems like you are supporting hammering it. That’s fundamentally un American.

Once again you don’t see Germany outraged by the fact of Mexico’s and Canada’s over reliance on US. Much less they are trying to ban trade between US and these countries although it would produce some opportunities for Germany.

you’d think a whole lot of Freepers are actually in FAVOR of a Russian-German pipeline

They're just Cruz-deranged. It's a form of insanity.

The difference is this time they advocate for free market and the opposite side advocates fascism.

Are you going to seriously compare NATO to a trade assosiation?

Maybe it’s time for you to sit back and reconsider what your brain is saying.

Trade associations do not fight wars. Allies defend and fight with us. Thus NATO!

It is of international importance that NATO Allis need to be free from needing anyone against the alliance strategic supplies, gas and oil.

NATO exists because of the USSR, and Putin was the KGB Head, and he still thinks the same way.

That isn why it was imperative that Trump continues his path of making us independent from the world for our energy.

At times an enemy of my enemy is my friend, but only in a sense you still need to keep from depending upon them for the energy your country needs. It is their best way of succeeding at being free from any threat a member of the opposing forces may pose.

Cleaned it up. I erred in posting it before It was ready.

It’s of international importance that NATO members be free from needing anyone opposed to NATO to be in control of their strategic supplies. As in, gas and oil.

Nope, the people linking NATO status to trade relationships are supposing it is a trade association. It is not me.

As for Russia vs Europe get real.

Russia’s military is 10% its 1985 strength. USSR had defence budget at two to ten times the US budget. Now it is 8-10% of US.

Russian military today is mostly a strategic deterrent and special operations. Conventional forces are mostly ceremonial in nature to show up may day parades.

It poses no threat to Europeand Europe knows it.

I cannot see what good there is in blocking Russian trade.

we wouldn’t be happy if Russia blocked out trade to say, Canada?

actually if Germany does something like that, it is Germany’s business.

They were stupid enough to permit an ongoing invasion of their land by Islamics.

If they decide to convert to gas and become economically vulnerable, so be it.

Not our business.

Of course representing Texas’s energy producers has NOTHING to do with his stand.

Get out of NATO and let them defend themselves.
