Target’s aim at LGBT market improves

Fifty years after Stonewall, LGBT people who listen to a song, stream a series or read a book have more positive images to draw upon than ever before.

But where are our faces in the ads that sell us those things — or, for that matter, pretty much everything? Rarely seen is the same-sex couple sizing up choices at a car dealership, passing around a tube of toothpaste during their morning routine or sharing a smooch as anniversary rings are exchanged.

“There’s just a very small group of companies that make an effort to educate themselves and to progress… to show us as we are, or appeal directly to the LGBT consumer,” says Todd Evans of Rivendell Media.

Include Target on that list, says Evans, who points to the general merchandise retailer as an example of a company committed to LGBT-specific marketing and products.

It is 1 or 2 percent plus the 40%ish of the population that support perversity.

Maybe both Chick-fil-a and Target have worked the numbers and found the Left brings more business.

For my birthday my liberal sister in law gave me a $150 gift card to Target. Generous but still a liberal 😉. I went into the local Target - first time in about 7 years - and what surprised me is a sign on the women's restroom: 'Women and children under 10 only.' I was surprised...

Interesting how the LGBT people have to see “people like them” in ads and entertainment. There was a similar story yesterday about a lesbian who was upset that he didn’t see “people like her” in Hallmark Xmas movies. Yet somehow, men are evil if they don’t want to watch chick flicks like Charlie’s Angels and Ghostbusters.

I just never understood the concept in the first place of marketing to the LGBTQWERTY crowd until I visited some corporate offices in very diverse products - it's like CandyLand vomited all over the place with the corporate ‘safe space’ areas for gays, lack of photos of traditional families, etc, etc.

They wallow in that stuff 24/7 so of course think it's a major economic segment to go after. And besides, anyone offended isn't the type of people they want to associate with in the first place.

(Jobseeking tip: if you're looking for a corporate job, be it in the corporate offices or on the plant floor cleaning potato chip cutters, manage your wardrobe to match what you'd imagine would be worn to a gay pride festival. You'll get the job every time.)

If a store are trying to sell the most stuff to the most people generic common ads make sense. This whole identity thing as in: I need to see people like me before I buy something is not the mass marketers target. It's yours.

That's because normal Americans (the majority of the population) don't want to be cleaning puke from their homes after they are exposed to such perversion, and (most) advertises know it.

Saw a “Humera” advertisement on TV last night.
The ad featured a white man with a black daughter.
It was offensive, to me.
Are they selling pills or an agenda?

All I demand is a warning before showing.
Like a MA rating (GC=gay couple?) so I know they’re showing a gay couple or a gay couple with kids (which is an issue for me). They sneak that crap in the middle of other ads, so you can’t choose to not see.

Target will wind up like J.C Penny. Several years ago J.C. Penny put out a catalog exclusively for gays. It was down hill for them since then.
