An embattled Mississippi judge's nomination to the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans faces opposition from civil rights groups that claim he has a poor record on issues involving race and sexual assaultand from conservatives who claim he is not conservative enough.
For the fifth time, the U.S. Senate committee in charge of advancing federal court nominees cancelled plans to hold a vote on Judge Halil Suleyman "Sul" Ozerden last month, and has not rescheduled plans to hold a vote.
In an October letter, The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights President Vanita Gupta wrote to senators, sharing concerns that Ozerden "has a track record of reflexively dismissing the claims of discrimination victims without letting them have their day in court."
In July hearings, Republican lawmakers questioned his credentials on "religious liberty," pointing to his 2012 dismissal of a lawsuit against the Affordable Care Act's contraceptive mandate. Trump nominated Ozerden in June at the urging of White House Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney and against the advice of the White House Counsel's Office, Politico reported in October. Mulvaney is a personal friend of Ozerden.

He should be withdrawn. He still has a lifetime appointment as a district judge. So no harm to him.
But somebody else should fill this 5th circuit seat.
When I dump on McConnell for long delays in some nominations for becoming a judge, this is a factor I consider.
There are going to be some bad folks slip through. I expect them to be vetted out.
The trouble is, there seems to be an awful lot of nominees still hovering since 2018, and even two from 2017.
These nominees deserve a review and a vote. Get it done Mitch.
Trent Lott ties? Never have seen one of those. Silk?
Carrie severino panned this guy. That is all I need to know.

Mississippi seems to be a cesspool of cronyism. Bust it up Trump. Whatever happened to the pretty boy that ran against Wicker in the primaries. Boss Hogg Barbour sent out a racist call getting ignorant blacks to crossover and deliver the victory for Wicker.
Lots and lots of newly nominated district judges to be from two RAT senator blue states. All those honored blue slips mean some kind of deal coming shortly.
A lot of quid pro quo among the two parties in the Senate it seems.
Ask Sheppie Smith he is an Ole Miss HottyToddy. The Journalism School is named for Trent at UM.
