Jack Merritt Died in the London Bridge Attack. Don’t Forget What He Stood For.(barf alert)
The New York Times ^ | December 1, 2019 | Emma Goldberg

Jack Merritt, my classmate at Cambridge and a program participant, recited a poem he’d written on forgiveness and rehabilitation. I remember feeling surprised by his words, so unselfconsciously earnest. I’d known him mostly for his dry wit, his boyishly good looks and his reputation as a criminology class clown.

Jack was stabbed to death during a terrorist attack near London Bridge on Friday. The attacker, Usman Khan, had been convicted of terrorism offenses in 2012. He was released from prison last year. Just before the attack, Jack was in Fishmongers’ Hall, a building adjacent to the bridge, helping to lead a conference on prisoner rehabilitation, an alumni celebration for Learning Together. Mr. Khan, who was attending the conference, began his rampage as a creative writing workshop was wrapping up inside the hall, around 2 p.m.

The injustice of somebody murdered while organizing for criminal justice feels impossibly sharp. Jack, who was 25 and from Cambridge, was in a room of people, some on day release from prison, discussing possibilities for penal reform.

But the world is full of injustice, and young people denied opportunity. Jack understood that better than most.

*** Learning Together was celebrating its fifth anniversary on Friday, in an event that convened prisoners, probation staff members, students and experts on criminology from across Britain. The attack began when Mr. Khan, who was wearing what turned out to be a fake suicide belt, ascended the grand staircase at Fishmongers’ Hall, pulled out two knives and threatened to blow up the building.

Don't wish ill on anyone but it does seem appropriate that for once an advocate of criminal justice reform is murdered by a islamo-fascist terrorist that should never have been released from prison.

It’s the NYT so I won’t bother reading, but my guess is he stood for allowing your country to be overrun with Mohammedans.

There are NO safe muslims.
Without notice or warning ANY of them can suddenly start following the example and instructions of their prophet.

Oh the irony.

Your wish is similar to the wish I have that just once, the victim of police brutality that everyone “protests” and riots over was actually an innocent person with no criminal record. Hard to feel sorry for thugs getting shot “illegally”.

I agree. I am sorry he was murdered but better a leftie Muslim sympathizer was the victim than the likes of British patriots like Tommy Robinson, Paul Joseph Watson, etc.

Someone who lets in rattlesnakes shouldn’t be surprised if he gets bit.

He stood for being an idiot. I’m sure he meant well, but a snake bites because that is its nature. Maybe after 30 years or so in jail - where the well meaning are certainly welcome to teach art appreciation - the snake will get sane and find some way of changing to something that is not a snake. But naive “no bad dogs” wishing doesn’t make it happen.

Better yet, why not have Christian missionaries trying to convert these snakes into human beings? Oops, that’s never going to happen in Islamic England.

What was unjust was a convicted terrorist released to walk the streets and not sent back to wherever he came from.

Push, push and push.
Someone is going to fix the radical Muslim issue.
Hopefully it might be the hand full of sane Muslims.
If the same ones don’t get off their prayer rugs and do something, it will be ugly.
