President Trump surprised American troops in Afghanistan on Thanksgiving.

He visited Bagram air base on Thursday, delivering Thanksgiving greetings to U.S. troops deployed there in America’s longest-running war.

Several years ago Bush the Lesser visited the soldiers in Iraq for Thanksgiving. It always seemed more a photo op than anything else, especially with the way he poised with that massive turkey.

Trump comes across as far more sincere and appreciative of the personnel who are deployed. A truly classy man who takes his responsibilities seriously for their own sake and that of the Americans he serves.

I do not necessarily agree with everything Trump has done, but I'm damned thankful that he's our president. This gesture of his, says volumes.

When I was in the Army, I spent 3 consecutive Christmases in Panama at Fort Clayton. I was in a 3 story open barracks with the mess hall on the first floor.

I think it was Christmas day of 1971 when the mess hall hosted Christmas dinner for us and a bunch of officers showed up for the dinner. One of the guys with a stereo on the second floor started playing the Woodstock album and when Country Joe and the Fish took the stage and started playing What Are We Fighting For?, the guy turned it on full blast........I thought we were screwed but the officers obviously ignored it.......LOL!

Many years ago I trained in the Peace Corps to teach English to the Afghans. Amongst other things we learned about Afghan history and culture. Lot’s of people have invaded, none stayed. Ask the Brits, ask the Russians. It’s who and what the Afghans are and always have been. We aren’t going to change them.

Happy Thanksgiving, all! On FB, this was posted on a news feed. The hatred from the maniacs is beyond comprehension. I’m grateful for all of our blessings as a nation. But that’s over-shadowed by my valid concern that at some point the animosity reaches the point of no return.
