Pompeo suggests debunked Ukraine election meddling theory should be probed

WASHINGTON - U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Tuesday suggested that Ukraine should be investigated over allegations that it interfered in the 2016 election, a debunked theory advanced by President Donald Trump that witnesses told the congressional impeachment inquiry was spread by Russian spy agencies.

Pompeo was asked at a news conference if the United States should probe accusations of Ukrainian election meddling that Trump’s fellow Republicans have raised in the Democrat-led U.S. House of Representatives probe into whether Trump abused his power for domestic political gain.

“Any time there is information that indicates that any time any country has messed with American elections, we not only have a right but a duty to make sure that we chase that down,” Pompeo replied without naming Ukraine. He added that even a suggestion of interference should be probed.

Witnesses at the House Intelligence Committee hearings have testified that the allegation of Ukrainian election interference was spread by Russia.

“This is a fictional narrative that has been perpetrated and propagated by the Russian security services themselves,” said Fiona Hill, a former U.S. intelligence analyst who served as the top Russia expert at the White House.

Yup, and notice that they offer no evidence to prove that it was debunked. Propaganda works on most people I guess.

They go to the same page. Most of the time, you can ditch everything from the question mark on.(including the question mark) I’m guessing the fbclid is fb aka facebook. It shows politico.com that the link was from facebook and facebook can also track how many clicks it gets on their site. Facebook and other social network sites add that suffix to the url. I always try to get rid of it because it looks nicer/safer and I don’t want facebook to get the link referral. The more link referrals they get, the more they can charge for ads.

There's that word again - "debunked".

It's the Word of the Week. Must be in a memo somewhere.

What's "debunked" are the yellow journalists who think if they use the term enough, we'll all just become stupid and believe it.

Does anyone besides me wonder how this theory was debunked and by whom?

What was the basis?

The media has said, thousands of times now, that it’s debunked.

But I have never seen the debunking.

Have any of you?

I think that “debunked” itself has been debunked.

It’s become public knowledge that Ukraine gave tens of millions to the Clinton Foundation and that members of the Ukraine government passed information to the Clinton campaign about Manafort. If that isn’t meddling in the election, than this dope doesn’t know the meaning of meddling.

Secretary Pompeo is in possession of forensic analysis that was done on the “hacked” DNC emails that appeared on Wikileaks and that was published by the Veteran Intelligence Professionals for Sanity (VIPS) organization. He has yet to respond to the VIPS findings publicly.

This Russian hacking of DNC emails and delivery to Wikileaks is at the core of the “intelligence community assessment” consensus that Russian state actors broke into the DNC servers from Russian traced sites and transferred the files over the internet WAN to their foreign disks.

The analysis of the DNC server digital image files (information extracted from the server hardware was done by Crowdstrike who was a paid contractor for the DNC. Their report was accepted without independent corroboration by any other federal or commercial agency. Their conclusion was that Russians transferred the emails to Russia via the internet.

The VIPS group analyzed the actual email files possessed by Wikileaks and determined that the encoding of the FAT blocks on the files was inconsistent with their being created as part of a WAN transfer. Instead, it showed conclusively that they were first transferred to local storage, probably a thumb drive. This strongly suggests that the files were taken by an insider with access to the DNC servers and physically delivered to Wikileaks. This scenario would call into question the Crowstrike finding of Russian internet hacking as the method of transfer. Julian Assage of Wikileaks has publicly denied that he received any of the emails from Russian sources and in at least one published report told reporters it was from a source inside the DNC. He gains nothing by trying to cover for the Russians at this point.

Until this contradiction to the “official” Crowdstrike finding is resolved any open minded person should not conclude that Russia was the sole actor behind the hacking or that the VIPS forensic analysis has been “debunked”.

As a matter of tradecraft it makes no sense for a state intelligence agency to go to the trouble and take the risk of hacking a target and then pass the information to a public site like Wikileaks. They don’t care who is elected only what they can use to influence or control them once they are elected.
