Nick Clifford, the last remaining carver of Mount Rushmore, has died at the age of 98.
A source close to the family has told us Clifford passed away Saturday morning. A family member confirmed the death.
Clifford was the last living carver of Mount Rushmore for last 12 years. During the summers it wasn't unusual for people to see him at the memorial greeting tourists and signing copies of his book.

Wow. I actually thought the monument was older...Never been.
He could have supervised the next one of the current POTUS.
Was just watching this today. One of my all-time favorites!
Now he gets to meet his subjects in person.
You know they’re all going to have a great laugh together.
WOW! Condolences to family and friends of Nick Clifford. R.I.P., sir. Thanks. love Good thing he didn’t live to see its destruction. (It’s going to offend some collective some day)
RIP.
Having grown up in South Dakota I have visited Mt. Rushmore many times. Despite the kitschy and touristy stuff around the monument it is impressive and worth seeing. Visit at sunset when the monument is illuminated with a light show. There are often school groups singing during the ceremony too. The drive through Spearfish Canyon (Highway 85/14A) from Mt.Rushmore to Spearfish and the iconic Iron Mountain Road (Highway16) from Keystone are some of the most scenic routes in the country. Be sure to take these in if you are visiting the Black Hills.
Sorry.
I have said a couple of times that the weird climate obsessive Greta already immortalized on huge building portraits would soon have to sit for the Mount Rushmore sculptors. Well, the torch has been passed to a new generation and all that.
RIP, sculptor.
Wonderful thought!
Yummy Eva Marie Saint.
And THAT WILL BE THE DAY CWII (or CWlll) Goes HOT

It’s going to take one big ass tarp to cover it up when the perpetually offended get their way.
I visited there for the first time in Sept - really enjoyed it. Beautiful country.
We saw him in 2013.
