Prince Andrew could be arrested and trapped in America if he jets across the Atlantic to speak to the FBI, a senior British lawyer warned today.
Baroness Helena Kennedy QC, a prominent human and civil rights lawyer from Scotland, said she would advise the Duke of York to meet agents in London instead.
Andrew signalled he would speak to FBI detectives investigating billionaire paedophile Jeffrey Epstein as he readied himself for a subpoena from US lawyers demanding he gives evidence under oath.
Baroness Kennedy, who previously defended Moors Murderer Myra Hindley, said: 'I wouldn't be wanting to send him there because I would be very concerned that suddenly he might be arrested and not able to leave the US. I would be very anxious about that.'
In his statement announcing he was stepping aside from public duties last night, the prince said he was 'willing to help any appropriate law enforcement agency... if required'.
Andrew's offer to co-operate with the authorities was welcomed by lawyers representing Epstein's victims, but they questioned why he would only do so 'if required'.
Buckingham Palace is 'braced' for the 'imminent' arrival of a subpoena summoning Andrew to give evidence under oath in the US, according to the Telegraph.
And a diplomatic row could be brewing if the duke refuses to fly to the US to meet the FBI, with agents able to request an interview in London - but only if he agrees to it.

I was just chatting with my daughter about this and apparently there’s a huge rape culture in Los Angeles where these rich guys get off on drugging girls and abusing them
to me I could never understand how a man could ever have sex with a woman that doesn’t want it
that is anathema to me
now I’m very conservative and I believe that sex should only be within a marriage or very minimum a committed relationship but the fact that it’s very common place among the wealthy to view women in this way was stunning to me
And then of course we have Mr. Epstein .now deceased , who had handlers go out and search for and find young females to fly them to a private island where are you would have no authorities to run to
and the web of rich men that got caught up in this , including our former president, and others continues to reverberate despite the guy being dead now for over a month
Again to me this is very simple - no man should ever want to have relations with a woman who doesn’t want it

They’re not going to arrest Randy Andy.
Prince Andrew is in trouble, yes, but I doubt very much if President Trump would authorize arresting or even holding Prince Andrew here against his will.
The president is good friends with The Queen.
That doesn’t mean all branches of American Law feel the same way. So Andrew should not come here right now.
If he, Mr. Trump doesn’t have the heart to go full bore at convicting and jailing Hillary, then, he’s not going to do anything so devastating to a British Royal either.
The Trumps and the Clintons were close friends years ago.
Daughters Ivanka and Chelsea were best friends before 2016 changed that relationship forever.
Which is why it’s better that he not come here.
This lawyer does not impress me. Members of the official Royal Family, those with the “HRH” prefix to their titles, almost always travel under a diplomatic passport. He can no more be arrested than the wife of the US diplomat who recently fatally ran down a British kid. A person that despite requests from the UK that she be repatriated to the UK and her immunity waived, President Trump has refused.
Well as a Royal, an emissary of the Queen, Andrew is a de facto diplomat and has immunity from arrest ans prosecution
I like how a human rights activist is advising someone how to avoid being arrested for being an accomplice to human trafficking and rape. I’d have thought the coursework would have explained that she has it backwards.
Or whatever government was using him to get black-mailable goods on Western political figures.
Andy would be a fool to entertain discussions with the FBI...as would anyone.
