DENVER — The Regional Transportation District continues to deal with a widespread shortage of train and bus operators, and that resulted in a large number of canceled trips Monday.

The solution is longer but fewer trains.
People applying for these jobs can’t pass the drug tests which are required for this type of job!!! THC stays in the system for some time!!
That does not solve the frequency of service issue and you cannot build buses that are all that much longer.
I met a lot of train operators when I was visiting Galt’s Gulch this past weekend.
Are most their drivers on strike?
The article doesn’t say why there are suddenly so few drivers. They should reduce the routes asap. Overworked drivers are unsafe drivers. Same as a Nurse working 48 hours without any real sleep. A very dangerous unforced error waiting to happen.
When Los Angeles’ mass transit system had the same acronym (the “Rapid Transit District”) it was often called the Reckless Traveling Disaster.

It wasn’t always this way. A lot of drivers have left in a short amount of time. My question is what prompted this change? Information is missing.

I heard this on the radio today. They said several trains to DIA were cancelled for lack of drivers. That’s truly boneheaded as those are the only trains that have passengers. The ones that run next to I 25 north and south are always empty.

Most people don’t think of it, being one of those unintended consequences, but the insurance industry, particularly the underwriters of workman’s comp and liability insurance have had something of a gordian knot to cut through with the legalization of pot in the state.
Ditto for companies in employers that do business with the federal government and other agencies that require a drug-free workforce. With workman’s comp, an employer loses a substantial discount if he can’t prove a drug-free work force.
