People from New Zealand are affectionately know as Kiwis. There is a strong gun culture in New Zealand. It has been there since the beginning. The Maori tribesman, warriors (and cannibals), took to guns more quickly than nearly any other technology the British brought to the islands. The British were not wimps when it came to warfare.
The nation of farmers, hunters, fishers and warriors kept their guns and had little regulation for a hundred and fifty years. With the British push for gun control after WWI, handguns came to be registered and regulated. With that regulation, the courts simply refused to honor the centuries-long tradition of an Englishman's right to arms, which is the precursor of the Second Amendment in the United States.
After WWII, urbanization, and the elites growing disdain for Christianity, the Media in the English speaking countries became the primary power broker.
The Media has pushed for population disarmament all over Western Civilization. In New Zealand, there is now formal censorship of ideas.

Which will fall on deaf ears. The Mr. and Mrs. New Zealand, turn em all in law has already been passed. The only thing I dont know is if the buy-back account has been funded yet. (Its been the lack of funding for the buy-back that accounted for the initial low compliance rate of the ban.)

Yet. Yet is the key word here.
It still blows my mind that NZ was able to censor the Christchurch shooters manifesto. There were significant disconnects between how his motives were characterized in the media, and what the document revealed. Hard to refute inaccurate media summaries without that document.
A ban on center-fire semi-auto rifles has been passed.
Most are not being turned in. (Considerable resistance)
The new law being proposed is an ambitious total fiream registry, and lots more controls.
New Zealand junked its long gun registry in 1983 as cumbersome, ineffective, and expensive.
The National Party (biggest single party in New Zealand) has about 46% of the members of Parliament, and is opposed to the new registration legislation.
It is not a foregone conclusion, yet.
Over this past weekend, the protesters in Hong Kong used arrows and catapult launched gasoline bombs to resist tyranny from the Chicom police. At least one policeman was injured by an arrow.

NZ is in the grasp of the worst collective of virtue signalling liberal fascists in the history of the South Pacific.
All rights to freedom will now deteriorate into a totalitarian state of feel good in exchange for personal liberty and life style choice.
One day when the shit hits the fan as it always does sooner or later, a natural disaster such as a volcanic eruption , a tsunami, or earthquake for example, NZ people will not have any way to even hunt to feed themselves, or preserve their own property from looters.
Those who value liberty in New Zealand should not register their firearms, or allow them to be confiscated. They must do what patriots have done for centuries all over the world, especially in Scotland where many NZ patriots families historically originated, and hide their weapons, pack them in cosmoline and bury then, put them in secret compartments built into homes and barns for the purpose.
One day when the paroxysm of weak kneed liberal fascists is discovered by all to be the vile enemy of the People that it truly is, then Liberty can be re-instated . Without the equivalent of a 2nd amendment, there is nothing else in NZ that can be done, unless there is a civil war.
Never give up your own power.
Never put your own power into the hands of another.
Human Beings are dangerous.
Well said.

Thank you very much!
My pleasure.
Now see my tag line.
Best,

I have seen it many times.
It is truth.
They would put us all in gulags and torture us to death at the first opportunity.
Conflict is in our future.
That sounds suspiciously like a Heinlein/Lazarus Long sentiment. If it isn’t, it should be.
Just some random thoughts from my head over an early morning cup of coffee.
It also seems like these thoughts should be obvious to practically anyone, but they’re not.
For the most part, humans are not interested in protecting other humans. They are interested in protecting themselves, taking whatever they can from others, and consolidating their own power.
Ineffectual at best.
Now the PLA is loading the arrestees on trains headed north into mainland china.
They’ll never be seen alive again.
This I have to disagree with. I think a majority of humans "are" interested in protecting others...but a large enough minority is not to "make humans dangerous". It is that minority which fits your last sentence...and it is from them that we need to protect ourselves (and others).

It all depends on how hungry people are.
Much depends on culture, as well.
Millions have starved in China and India, peacefully, because they could not see any other alternative.
