The contest is also an increasingly close one. Incumbent Gov. John Bel Edwards faces a serious challenge from Republican businessman Eddie Rispone, whos attempted to tie himself tightly with Trump during the campaign. In the week ahead of the election, polling had the two candidates nearly tied, and Cook Political Report has classified the race as a toss-up.

If Edwards wins, media will talk about it non-stop as a loss for PDJT. If Rispone wins, it will be crickets.

polls close at 8pm
one thing to keep an eye on as county results come in , How close is the republican Vote tonight vs the total of the two republicans a few weeks ago

Polls are essentially tied is what I heard. Which is why this race is more interesting than KY. In KY, the reppublican was 15-17 points behind in polls, election result was within 1 point.

According to 538 race is too close to call.
I dont see John Bel Edwards getting above 50% in a heavily GOP State. Hes toast.

NOOOOOO, this is important news event today, and more threads are just fine, IMHO. Not everyone reads every thread. So a repeat thread is good for those who missed the earlier one.

Rispone is gonna win by at least ten and other down ballot Republicans should also win their races.

Cmon, Virginia was almost guaranteed to go deep blue. Where my daughter lives, the Republicans didn’t even bother to put up any candidates.

Tied? I guess that means that Louisiana should stand by for an influx of about 10,000 Rat Party lawyers...

In 2015 there was little enthusiasm for Vitter and this time there is no enthusiasm for Bel Edwards and lots for Rispone.
Also, liberals have no reason to get out and vote for Bel Edwards as he is very Pro Life.
However, with good weather, you can expect high voter turnout in New Orleans.

That would be great, if happens, I might indulge in a drink of Amaretto on ice spiked with a little bit of half and half...a really good dessert hahaha.

Not really! KY GOP candidate was behind 17 points in polls.
But all other statewide races (5?) went GOP.
VA is no longer a red state.

Virginia's lost...and for the very same reason that Maryland and DC are lost: too many residents getting some kind of government check.

Only big Rat city in the state. The difference from ten years ago is most whites have become Republican like in the rest of the South.
Last Blue Dog Democrats lost their legislative seats back in the primary to Republican challengers.
