A Chinese Navy with 10 Aircraft Carriers? It Could Happen.
The National Interest via yahoo ^ | November 13, 2019 | Richard D. Fisher Jr. ,

Posted on 11/15/2019 11:53:18 AM PST by RomanSoldier19

In his reaction to the December 6 Chinese Global Times article quoting experts saying China’s People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) may require five or six aircraft carriers, David Axe wrote an article asking, “Could Beijing really pull it off?” The short answer is that Beijing is just getting started.

China has a debt and a banking problem and their economy is slowing down. There are indications that civil unrest is on the rise which could increase their economic problems. China may very well end up like Russia with a fleet they cannot maintain and lacking competent sailors once they are out to sea.

China will be most dangerous just as their economy begins to crash but soon they will be too preoccupied with their internal issues.

China is a little late to the dance. Aircraft carriers are already obsolete in some ways. And hypersonic missiles will change everything.

One of the problems is what was demonstrated by the Pearl Harbor attack. They sunk the battleships, but technology was moving on. They shoulda got the carriers.

The Japanese were well aware of that, and they wanted to get our carriers based at Pearl. But they happened to be out of port that December morning, so it was providence that the U.S. carriers were spared.

Japan wanted our carriers again at Midway, but again providence won out and we sank four of their carriers to our one loss.

“Bar none the US Navy is the best fighting surface force on the planet.”

Proven by the USN kamikaze attacks on container ships.

Yep. The “FDR knew it was coming” conspiracy theory is that he got the carriers out on purpose. At least that is one theory I read a few decades ago.

To be fair... It was also the “Russian” navy at the time.

The Chinese haven’t even shown the ability to put a Destroyer Group 10,000 miles from home.

When they get that far away from the motherland, the Kardashians start looking pretty good to the Chinese sailors.

I have shouting since China got into the WTO that we would be at a hot war with them if not in my lifetime, than in my children’s I was told I was a fool... I said, no, China believed for thousands of years it was the center of the Universe, and will NEVER STOP until it believes it is again...

“Free Trade” with China is nothing more than funding the weapons that will kill us...

But what do I know, I’m just some schlub from fly over country...

America's been doing carrier battle groups for decades professionally.

Chi-coms not so much. If ever they come head to head with America...I'm thinking they wouldn't fair so well.

But in the past,

The United States built and launched 141 Aircraft Carriers of all classes during the war. To protect them we built 498 escort ships (Corvettes and Frigates) As well as 349 destroyers

How ridiculous was American production in World War 2? [images at link]

This is Willow Run. It was a B-24 plant built by Ford to mass produce the bomber. It ran its line 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and produced a complete B-24 every 63 minutes on average. At peak, it produced 100 bombers in just two days.

America had 18 dry docks building Liberty Ships during WW2. Whereas typically riveted ships of the day took months to build, the Liberty Ships went from nothing to ready to launch in an average of 42 days in those dry docks. They were welded instead of riveted, and only built for a 5-year life span. Forty-two days doesn’t seem very fast? Well I did say that was an average. The first Liberty ship took 230 days to complete. The fastest built ship took less than five days. That is a 14,000 ton ship from laying the keel to launch in less than five days. We built 2,710 of these ships during the war.

Between the nine plants, 49,234 Sherman tanks were built during the war, accounting for about half of the tanks the US produced during the war. Yeah, half again. -Quora ^ | 2019 | Chris Morehouse

Thank God for those who served, and for those who enabled such production for the purpose of fighting evil empires. Yet now the Navy knows how to marry men with men, and thinks it is wise to have men and women work (etc.) together on subs, and all overall the military is committed to helping the enemies within, saluting the Leftist politically correct flag. On her present course of war against God, the day will come when it is said, "How are the mighty fallen, and the weapons of war perished!" (2 Samuel 1:27)

Their economy is built on a foundation of ever-expanding debt and ever-expanding exports. Neither of those can or will continue indefinitely.

These ships have to be crewed - and they have no history (unless you go back 500 years) of being a seafaring nation with a large, well-functioning navy. You don’t just create that in a factory, it takes literally decades to do that.

Technology is not standing still - hypersonic missiles work both ways, and we are working on extremely powerful ship-based lasers that will be able to shoot down even waves of drones and/or hypersonic missiles.

China also has no allies, whereas we have essentially surrounded them with our allies (at least insofar as the water is concerned - Russia is a different matter, but certainly not one that gives the Chinese leadership the warm & fuzzies.

In short, just building a bunch of ships - no matter how impressive - isn’t enough. You have to pay for them and their upkeep, have the skilled manpower to operate it well and allies to watch your back. China has NONE of those things.

“Maybe not soon but in 10-15 years.”

It takes about 5 years just to build an aircraft carrier here in the United States. I’m sure that the Chinese are willing to cut a few corners and maybe build 2 at a time, but it’s not going to net them 10 aircraft carriers in that amount of time. Especially when there will be at least 2 different classes, 1 of them nuclear. Then you need the port facilities, the support ships, the crews the aircraft.

Bar none the US Navy is the best fighting surface force on the planet. The concern is the absolutely huge amounts of money going into the CMC (Chinese Military Complex). Given enough money the numbers will over shadow the US capacity to respond. Currently there is no hope in hell the Chinese could stand a chance against a US carrier group. It comes down to numbers and e have to be able to counter that with far superior hardware and technology. The US budget should also mirror the what the Chinese are doing. Playing catchup with hypersonic weapons and their ilk is not a scenario the US wants to be in.

All the superior hardware and technology will not overcome the increasingly lack of character we increasingly have overall in American society. And the Chinese are gaining more ground in tech than the West likely is, and we are very much dependent upon tech (like GPS) that the Chinese can interfere with, and has missiles which likely can disable even carriers. And under 50 America is such that it would protest and sue for peace if a few thousand Americans died.

When you fight against God, which the USA has increasingly engaged in then you have an enemy you need to have as your Lord and Savior.

We, or the Nazis or Japanese, didn’t use Chem/Bio weapons in WW2. So it is plausible we don’t go nuclear, at least until a land invasion is attempted on a nuclear power.

Say they did get 10 carriers, they could park several off our Pacific coasts and pummel our naval and airforce facilities while they invaded Taiwan.

Not saying it would be easy or without costs to them, but they would get Taiwan.

Maybe the Navy should take the B-1s. Fill them with 24 LRASMs each...

Respectfully to all of my navy friends… Who cares?

I say that because aircraft carriers are absolutely without question the battleships of the second world war.

In modern warfare they are sitting ducks… If china were to build a 10 aircraft carriers… In an international conflict with the United States… Every single one of those aircraft carriers will be at the bottom of the sea in the first hour. And there would be absolutely nothing That would stop This from happening.

And Newport News Shipbuilding is the sole designer, builder and refueler of U.S. Navy aircraft carriers and one of two providers of U.S. Navy submarines.

How many nukes do you think are programmed to hit this?

1 Sat image. 10 Cruise missiles No more carriers

R2D2 (or how do you write that in Chinese?) can protect them. Maybe. Unless there's a whole lot more than 10 cruise missiles.
