Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter was admitted to a hospital on Monday evening for a surgery to relieve pressure on his brain, caused by bleeding due to his recent falls, his spokeswoman said.
The procedure is scheduled for Tuesday morning at Emory University Hospital, Deanna Congileo said in a statement. Carter has fallen at least three times this year, and the first incident in the spring required hip replacement surgery. He traveled to Nashville, Tennessee, and helped build a Habitat for Humanity home after getting 14 stiches following a fall on Oct. 6. And he was briefly hospitalized after fracturing his pelvis on Oct. 21. He received a dire cancer diagnosis in 2015 but survived and has since said he is cancer-free.
Nearly four decades after he left office and despite a body that's failing after 95 years, the nation's oldest-ever ex-president still teaches Sunday school roughly twice a month at Maranatha Baptist Church in his tiny hometown of Plains in southwest Georgia. His message is unfailingly about Jesus, not himself.
Rev. Tony Lowden, Carter's pastor, said the ex-president was hospitalized Monday on what he called "a rough day."

Best wishes for a successful operation.
I am retiring from the military soon. For my retirement, I can request a letter from every former president that I served under.
I know this is selfish, but upon seeing this news, I hope I have already received the letter from Carter.
Take the pain pill and avoid the surgery.
Obama says so. It isn’t cost effective to continue his Castro sucking life.
If not, this could interfere with the impeachment narrative.
Yeah, well, I’ve got my own problems. It’s 17 degrees outside and I still haven’t found a guy to prune my crabapple tree.
They will say that impeaching Trump was Carter’s dying wish

That kind of microsurgery can be tricky.
A modern version of trepanning.
They are saying bleeding on the brain because of recent falls. I thought he had brain cancer.
Shouldn’t we Republicans stand outside Carter’s hospital room banging pots and pans and shouting death threats like the left did to McConnell when he was recovering from surgery? Oh, that’s right, we’re not total a**holes.
As folks get older their brains shrink a bit. Minor trauma can tear small bridging veins that are stretched across the gap. The blood accumulates slowly producing a sub Dural hematoma which is almost always insidious. 2-3 weeks later the patient begins to have symptoms. Cognitive loss, paresis, etc. Recoveries are partial. Recurrences frequent.
It may be a good time to see the shrunken head physicians.
Get well soon, Mr. President. Prayers for a successful surgery and quick healing.
I wonder if former President 0bama told him just to take a couple of aspirin, as Carter is too old to spend medicare money on? That was bh0’s advice to a lady who objected to 0bamacare for her 90 year old mother? And bh0’s CoS’s brother Ezekiel Emmanual that folks older than 75 shouldn’t receive anything except for a suicide pill.
I don’t wish Carter ill, I hope the surgery is a success, but would like his comment on violating “Democrapt health policy.” Just for the sake of honesty.
Hardly ‘Breaking News’, imho.
Perhaps it’s just my endemic malaise . . .
Even though I dislike the man from what I have discerned by watching him over the decades, and disagree intensely with him on nearly everything ranging from his belief systems and policies, I don’t wish him ill.
I have always simply wanted him to leave the public stage and stay out of politics in the way that retired Presidents used to do.
He broke that paradigm and his successors have largely followed suit, and while I do hold that against him, I still wish him and his family peace in his last days, whenever those might be.
From the scant description in the news reports, my guess is that Carter suffered a subdural hematoma due to his recent fall. In essence, a bleed below the membrane known as the dura seems to have developed slowly and put pressure on the brain. This is a fairly common complication after falls by the elderly.
Its 8 degrees here and the mechanical ditch digger is still sitting in my yard waiting to dig in my TV cable. The battery died on the last nice day.
Send in the micronized nuclear sub then take a union lunch.
