This book almost assuredly was ghostwritten by the wife of Jonah Goldberg. And if you've heard him interview her on his podcast, it is pretty clear they are all in alignment—but the wife (Jessica Gavora) is pretzeling herself along with Nikki to not make it appear that way here for the sake of Haley's presidential aspirations. That is, she and her boss Nikki know that she would have no prayer of getting elected again to anything is she came out as the Never Trumper that she is.

So why put this bit in her book? Undoubtedly to try to inoculate herself against the revelation that she was meeting with other Never Trumper subversives in the WH on resistance (e.g., 25th Amendment) issues.
