What she says about what Tillerson and Kelly should have done, applies to all who work at U.S. federal executive branch agencies and departments.

To all of them it must be said: You are not the elected government, you are just employees. The only elected government is those elected by the people. They are the only ones to whom authority to make policies belong, not you. If you are not comfortable carrying out a policy given by your superior, and your conscience says you should oppose it, then you have an ethical and professional OBLIGATION to quit your job. To stay on the job and seek to undermine the elected government from within is tantamount to treason.

You may think your view is superior and more “right” than the view of those who make a policy you object to. You have a right to hold that opinion, but as long as you are in the government you do not have a right to act as if your opinion will be made the government’s by you undermining a policy you object to.

These words apply to top military commanders especially, but no less to anyone else in government.

Thanks Nikki, it's refreshing that there are still some with integrity. I'm sensing that even though Sessions was a horrible AG he is going to be a Trump supporter as candidate and senator.
