Mike Bloomberg is jumping into the Democratic presidential race because he believes that Joe Biden is fading, opening the moderate lane next to Elizabeth Warren, sources close to the former New York mayor tell Axios.
Why it matters: "Mike will spend whatever it takes to defeat Donald Trump," a Bloomberg source said. "The nation is about to see a very different campaign than we’ve ever seen before."
I'm told there's no way he'll later run as a third-party or independent candidate, partly because of ballot-access hurdles.
Theory of the case: Bloomberg, who according to Forbes is worth $52 billion, will self-fund, allowing him to run an essentially national campaign at a time when the rest of the field is raising money and focusing on early states.

For Bloomberg, winning the GOP nomination during his mayoral runs was the easy part. The hard part was running in the general. Here, I think campaigning in the general will be the easy part. The hard part? Winning the Democratic nomination. There’s a reason he did not run as a Democrat in NYC’s mayoral races. There’s no way he could have gotten that nomination.
Is it official that he’s announced his intentions?
On the issues, he’s way, way left on all the issues they support. Abortion, gun control, immigration, climate change, taxes, environment, gay agenda, etc.
He’s a more civilized, better dressed Bernie Sanders with $52 Billion. Can he convince the left to vote for an old white billionaire? He’s smart and articulate, but not really inspiring. Can he fire up the base, who’s first instinct is to hate rich white men?
It’s how he won Mayor of NYC, as a Republican.
All Trump has to do is bring forward all the small business owners this piece of sh— fined out of business with his brownshirts. Newstands, hotdog vendors fined $1000 for things like not producing their license fast enough or the newstand fined $25,000 for each 2 inch cigarette lighter that was shaped like a gun. Yes he did that.
I like it. Every dollar wasted on his futile presidential campaign is one less dollar available for gun control.
