In Blue New Jersey, a Conservative Backlash on Immigration (sanctuary cities)

A referendum on Tuesday’s ballot in New Jersey’s northernmost county asked whether voters wanted local officials to cooperate with federal immigration agents.

It passed by a lopsided 2-to-1 margin.

Nearly 200 miles away, along the state’s southern swath, a directive by the state attorney general that in part bars county sheriff officers from doing the work of Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents has led two counties to file federal lawsuits. A third county has threatened legal action.

The state attorney general’s rule not only precipitated the lawsuits, but also became a key election issue, generating support for Republican candidates who successfully ousted incumbent Democrats in a conservative district that cuts across Cape May, Cumberland and Atlantic Counties.

Under President Trump, immigration has become one of the most polarizing issues in America. He has made immigration a central theme, repeatedly calling for a wall along the Mexican border and making incendiary comments about undocumented immigrants.

California has made opposition to Mr. Trump’s stringent immigration policies a core priority, while prosecutors in New York and Massachusetts have sued to block ICE arrests in courthouses.

But in reliably blue New Jersey, where the governor was elected on a promise to usher in a liberal agenda, there remain pockets of defiance to progressive immigration policy and what critics have labeled the “sanctuary state scam.”

“It was a rallying cry,” said Antwan McClellan, a Republican elected on Tuesday to the Assembly who works as the personnel director and assistant to the Cape May County sheriff. “People were concerned about their safety.” The sheriff filed one of the lawsuits against the attorney general.

He is being represented in the suit by another victorious Republican, Michael Testa Jr., a chairman of Mr. Trump’s re-election effort in New Jersey, who won a Senate seat

Not exactly true. As all dems do, he lied about what he really was. He ran as a left of center guy, he's been trying to govern as an outright communist and even the dem controlled legislature is blocking a lot of what he wants to do because they want to keep their cushy jobs.

THIS is the opening to win the Suburbs!

An unrestricted flow of illegal immigrants means an unrestricted flow of illegal immigrant children into the local schools. Overcrowded schools, massive classroom size, children with no real health screening, all lead to a steep decline in the quality of education.

Suburban women want to be compassionate to a point. When it threatens to RUIN the school their kids go to that won’t work for them.

Well Murphy did promise to raise taxes and he did just that

He also promised the pot heads legal pot, but that never got anywhere.

He won the pot head vote, which by the way is huge in NJ

A lot of single issue voters, pot heads are in that group

Plus his competition ran a really awful and boring campaign.

Put this in perspective, the last time a democrat governor was re-elected in New Jersey was back in the 70’s

Dems held the state house for 8 years with 3 governors, McGreevy, Cody, Corzine. none were ever re-elected, and Cody was never elected to be governor. Fun Fact, Cody was governor twice, once in 2002 for 3 days and in 2004 to 2006 to fill out McGreevy’s term.

Republican Governors have been re-elected, Christie, Whitman, Kean all were re-elected.

Brendon Byrne was the last democrat governor to be re-elected, 1977

The last time a Republican governor was NOT Re-elected in NJ was in 1973 when Cahill was primaried and the governorship was lost to Byrne.

In FR postings so far none have mentioned what voter turnouts were in those states having elections. Any analysis of the results which doesn’t include turnout is worthless when considering the impact on the 2020 potential result.

What is most interesting in this era of politics is the liberals are finally being confronted face- up with their actual policies and the results of them

Even regular Democrats realize that unfettered illegal immigration and allowing MS 13 types to wander around and re-Kavic is not a good idea

Up to this point liberalism is all been based on fuel good nonsense and attacks on Republicans

both of those are being exposed for the lies that they are

Democrats are so stupid that they think they have to take the opposite point of view of our great and wonderful president Donald J Trump no matter what he does ! - which is obviously about as stupid as it gets!

The southern tip of New Jersey is Cape May County by far the most beautiful county in New Jersey and perhaps on the entire eastern seaboard

I’m not a pot head, so don’t get snide. I’ve been sober for 29 years. I just hate the utter hypocrisy of people who will have no problem drinking and then condemn marijuana smoking. It smacks of self-righteousness and self-righteousness is just a phony form of respectability.
