Which is why it’s important that as many people vote for Trump, even in states where it may be a lost cause.

The premise is bass-ackwards. If he wins the electoral college numbers the 5 million votes don’t mean squat.

“...Trump might realistically pull in just 25 percent in 2020...”

And even less if California is successful in keeping him off of the ballot.

Easy solution. NYC, Chicago, LA, Philadelphia, Miami, San Francisco, and whatever other liberal urban center that wants to join, can all secede from the US and form their own government. They won’t have a military. They won’t have a means to grow food for themselves. They won’t have minerals or petroleum reserves. And, all of their ‘money’ can be easily moved to other locations. But they can choose the specific ‘leaders’ without having to worry about the electoral college..

We need to make sure everyone votes, even in the reddest of red states.

It is the electoral college, which reflects the collection of how the vote went with the states, state by state, that elects the president, not the “popular” vote, which by itself alone CANNOT represent THE STATES of these United States.

Using the “popular vote” will incite a new civil war, as MOST of the country would get overruled by the merely most populace places in the country. It would be a victory of filaments of blue in a sea of red.

Democrats and their allies would be perfectly justified in taking to the streets in outraged protest...

~~~
“Outraged protest” is sogdignalling for violence and destruction.
Democrats and their allies would be perfectly justified in taking to the streets in outraged protest, and they would almost certainly do so — in numbers that would rival or surpass what we've seen in recent weeks in Chile. More radical factions, including troublemaking Antifa activists, would do their best to spark violence, with the president egging them on with taunts on Twitter, and in speeches at rallies and at official events.
Who says they will be perfectly justified taking to the streets and rioting?
I always think of the electoral college like... offensive yardage in football. TONS of teams LOSE the game who actually gained MORE yards than the other team, but have a hard time in the green zone actually scoring and thus lose.
And Trump supporters would be perfectly justified in taking up arms and violently suppression such a flagrant illegal attempt to over turn the duly elected government of the US by force.
You want to try on Treason Democrat Fascists propaganda bots? Go right ahead but let me warn you, getting shot hurts...alot.
Then we will have President Trump.... no matter HOW many Mexicans and cemeteries the Democrats get to vote.
And if they take to the streets and seize the government by force, against the constitutional electoral college... then we have the 2nd amendment.
The creation of the electoral college was probably the most brilliant addition to the Constitution.
Now Obama...won by beating the electoral college mathematically...working the districts that would have the most Dem votes.....as long as they got the vote out....which is what they're good at.
No Clinton has ever won a majority of the popular vote. I suspect that Lincoln, who won big league in the electoral college, would not have won a majority in a run-off system, with southerners and Missourians going for Bell in a run-off or border staters and Missourians going for Breckinridge.
Woodrow Wilson (’12, ‘16), Richard Nixon (’68), Bill Clinton (’92, ‘96), JFK, George W. Bush (2000), Truman (’48) and others did not get an outright majority of the popular vote.
