Nine members of a Mormon family were killed on the Mexican side of the US-Mexico border, and authorities are investigating whether the attack was the result of mistaken identity. The slain victims include three women, four small children and two infants, family member Alex LeBaron said from Mexico. He said all nine were dual US-Mexican citizens. The victims were "all shot while in vehicles while driving," LeBaron told CNN. Investigators believe three vehicles traveling between the Mexican states of Sonora and Chihuahua were ambushed by criminal groups Monday evening, Mexican authorities said.

Amen. I’m not LDS, but I probably would be if I was born into an LDS family. Tired of all the anti LDS bigotry on here. Yes, Mittens is a fool. But he’s not their Pope! This is a time for prayer and action on behalf of the lives lost to bloodthirsty cartel violence. I don’t care if these children and women were wiccans or atheists - they’re Americans. And while I have major theological differences with LDS, I’ve never met a Mormon who wasn’t kind.

Yes...There’s are many Mormon settlements in that area of Mexico. It’s like an oasis in the middle of the desert.

At any rate, the Italian mafia and the Irish gangs weren’t less brutal. They were just faced off against an educated population which could and would rise up and kill their asses if pushed. Eventually the people of the United States got tired of their existence and ended them.
The Lebarons have also opposed the cartels, and refused to pay ransom when a cartel kidnapped a 17 y.o. boy 10 years ago. Although he was released, a brother was murdered in retaliation.
They are also in contention with locals over water rights.
As for their relationship with state and federale government and factions thereof, who knows?

The mafia never killed innocent people unless by mistake.
Cartels will kill off entire busloads of people or 40 innocent college students. Mafia never killed off hundreds of journalist or politicians.
The Mafia and irish gangs were pikers compared to the cartels.
