A FOX 11 investigation is exposing gangs of Chilean nationals who have been utilizing visa waivers to come to the United States for the sole purpose of burglarizing homes, businesses, and vehicles, and Southern California has become a top target for the criminals.

Law enforcement officials are calling it “burglary tourism”, in reference to the ESTA visa waivers the Chileans are taking advantage of to get into the United States.

Sure, let's open up the borders even more so that criminal gangs in other countries can do the same. Why only limit it to "entrepreneurs" in Chile?

WOW they spend return airfare, hotels and food in USA, and still make more money in burglary business! Has to be a big loot during burglaries.

So, put bullets in their heads and send the waste disposal bill to the Chilean consulate.
This sort of thing needs to be dealt with in an extreme fashion.

I think the problem is deeper than ESTA visa waivers:
But when Hassine got the police report weeks later, he found out the Chileans were never arrested. Instead, the report states they were all dropped off at a nearby Denny’s at their request.

Chile. I thought their economy was doing so well they didn’t need us. Small burglaries are not prosecuted in Calif. They know it. Where to they take/sell the stuff? Must be in SoCal amongst the latin community.

Just think of it as international markets at work.

CA put up a sign that said—”Steal our stuff”.

You can’t blame folks if they decide to go for it. ;-)

They are incentivised by California’s downgrading burglary from felony to misdemeanor for thefts of property valued at less than $1000. — The downgrade sold to Californians as a way to free cops to go after more serious crimes and save the taxpayers money spent on incarceration.

Well as long as they steal less than $950 per burglary, they’re ok, right?

IIRC, California recently stopped enforcing “low-level” crimes, thereby encoyraging these type of schemes.

Apparently for tourists the limit is higher:
Hassine is the owner of Nuggets & Carats in Laguna Niguel, a jewelry store that had $1.5 million of its inventory wiped out overnight on March 24th after it was burglarized by a crew of Chilean nationals.
Same MO, just before the burglary the were caught in the middle of...

Doing jobs that Americans won't do?

As if we did not have any home-grown burglars.
