This Emotional Intelligence Test Was So Accurate It Was Creepy

The concept of emotional intelligence (“EQ” or “EI” for short) has been around for over 20 years, but it’s still enjoying buzzy prominence in HR circles. The more technology reshapes (and in some quarters, automates) the workforce, the more valuable human-only skills seem to become. So I took the EQ-i 2.0 to figure out what it could tell me about my strengths, weaknesses, and what they might mean for my career.

SMDH! Yeah, as my career was coming to an end, this seemed to be popping up more frequently. Mrs rktman's employer was a little further ahead than mine in the field of gobbeldy gook. Now my EI is "Did that PO me or did it NOT PO me.". For what it's worth.

This becomes another personality test to be used to discriminate against qualified people who don’t fit the “ideal”.

If you’re introverted, people already discriminate against you for not meeting the normal level of socialization and prefer hyper-social people.

If you’re brilliant and qualified but low on social awareness or moderately autistic, they’ll refuse to hire you because you don’t have the right personality type ... though that isn’t related or needed for the job.

This test becomes another form of oppression by algorithm.

The other is the HR systems that screen your resume to find the best fits for a job that intentionally downgrade people with religious references and prioritize those who are “diverse”.

It’s one of the approaches being used to feminize the workplace.

By “feminize” I don’t mean allowing women career opportunities commensurate with skills and experience.

Instead, I mean, using a traditionally feminine yardstick (empathic listening, not being brusque or displaying bravado, inclusiveness) to measure male performance.

I took one of those tests about 10 years ago. The result was short, and to the point: “You are not emotionally suited to be Hillary Clinton’s running mate.”

Well, yeah.

Yeah, no FB, social misfit/loner. No instagram, rapist. No twitter account, murderer. If HR could find me on the net, it would be posts on here and we all know that means jail time. :-)

Some people have too much time on their hands. If you are worried about your EQ, you are already too neurotic for my taste.

Ignoring the trends of society’s demise will not slow them down.

It seems to me that a lot of what is being assessed as ‘EQ’ is really a question of ‘political IQ’ (i.e. how well can you fit in and say and do the ‘appropriate’ things in a work or social environment). Some of that is related to EQ, but they are most definitely different. Some very manipulative sociopathic and narcissistic people are extremely good at being political and manipulative. That does NOT mean they are well-balanced people with good emotional maturity.

I suppose it opened the eyes of the author that it’s EI was not as good as it supposed? :-)

Socializing feels like work to me. Conversation is not entertainment, it is work.

More bafflegab from the toolmakers on the Left and their lackeys in the psychology department...Fills the need for a way to weed out the people the Left doesn’t like for the traits they hate...Like free independent thinking, reason and especially conservative thoughts...

You pinned it...
