The United States was founded in a violent revolution and then, "fourscore and seven years" later, found itself in the midst of a brutal civil war that cost the lives of three quarters of a million Americans, more American deaths than in any other war.
Could another violent internal war in America erupt yet again? While it is not probable, the possibilities are sobering.
In 1776, the impetus for war had been brewing for many years. Indeed, as the Declaration of Independence made clear, "mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed."
When the evils of tyranny were no longer "sufferable," the revolution became an all-out war.
Likewise, in 1861, the seeds of war had been long in taking hold, until they finally bore their deadly fruit.
In both cases, whatever other "root causes" the historians may identify, the deciding factor was that both warring sides had worldviews that collided. They were not only incompatible; they were, to each other, insufferable.
In 2019, we have for many years been witnessing the growing divide between two opposing political philosophies, loosely termed "right" and "left" or conservative and liberal, but the names do not capture the real cores of the two sides. Essentially, the right believes in individuality, the Left in collectivism.
In normal times (if ever there were any), the two sides could coexist. Each recognized that society must incorporate both individualistic and collectivist policies to produce infrastructure and distribute wealth and to defend the nation from foreign enemies. Compromise was necessary.
Today, those considerations seem to take second place. Atheistic culture and values motivate the extremists on the Left. They inflame emotions and leave no room for compromise.

State and local LEO’s are essentially more for traffic flow than any protection. Why? IMO, the threat of assassination today is at it’s peak and the threat is as much from within as from the outside.
Either there won’t be another civil war, or some nut group will rise up and be crushed. Try not to be one of the nuts.
Lets say i am a communist revolutionary. I have already unleashed the antifa, arrested or killed hundreds of political enemies, shut down non government communications, and attempted gun confiscation.
Now, in the knowledge that my political support is concentrated in coastal cities, and i have in effect declared all out civil war through my anti constitutional actions, how do i now defend my territory from dirt simple attacks? How do i ensure delivery of goods and servic to the big coastal cities? How do my armed forces in my coastal cities communicate with each other reliably?
The communist revolution is in short unsustainable. Large cities are wasily isolated from each other by guerilla action. Once isolated they are either mooped yp or left to burn, one by one, unless they surrender unconditionally. The communists can not win. They will simply ensure thwir own destruction.
If that is the case then the most humane manner in which the problem is solved is probably the least lengthy path, so that hospitals and essential food and water supplies can be restored as soon as possible. Most patriots might do well to have a bug out plan and a country safe haven already in place before the heavy action begins.
Any foreign power attempting to invade will be repelled in the conventional guerilla manner.

Presuming the president is a constitution supporting patriot during an insurrection then he or she might be best off holed up offshore in a nuke sub. Executive control over nuke subs must be maintained to prevent nuclear attack of rural usa from foreign adversaries. Nuclear deterrence must be maintained at all costs. The nuke subs can probably sustain themselves for a couple of years independently. Portable underwater repair bases might help... would such repair bases even be feasible? After a few tears, nuclear stockpiles need complex maintenance that peobably cant be carried out underwater. By then however a revelotion imwoul hopefully have run its course. If not the consequences for the usa and the world might be dim... the chinese perhaps would like to play the long game...
If a civil war will kill about 50 million Americans, it's worth working hard to avoid that while also avoiding totalitarian government. How about Congress expels states that tolerate (for example) sanctuary city laws or oppose the Second Amendment, and that generally support socialist redistribution of wealth. My nominees:

Massachusetts,
New York,
Vermont,
Illinois,
New Jersey,
Connecticut,
Rhode Island.
I trust Trump’s private Security is well involved, too.
