Victor Davis Hanson: Democrats have turned California into a problem-plagued burning nightmare
Fox News ^ | Victor Davis Hanson

Posted on 10/31/2019 2:15:21 PM PDT by MassMinuteman

More than 2 million Californians were recently left without power after the state’s largest utility, Pacific Gas and Electric — which filed for bankruptcy earlier this year — preemptively shut down transmission lines in fear that they might spark fires during periods of high autumn winds.

Consumers blame the state for not cleaning up dead trees and brush, along with the utility companies for not updating their ossified equipment. The power companies in turn fault the state for so over-regulating utilities that they had no resources to modernize their grids.

Love VDH... "Our resolute ancestors took a century to turn a wilderness into California. Our irresolute generation in just a decade or two has been turning California into a wilderness."

I wonder if the voters of California have any chance of electing Republicans to the state legislature or if the Dems have eliminated any chance of that happening?

I used to believe that Man Made Climate Change was a fraud. A hoax.

Now I believe in it!

The State of California has climate changed from a Paradise to an inferno. All by design and on purpose.

Pseudoscience and delusion is at the core of all Democrats.

Maybe we should start building a new wall between CA, Arizona, Nevada and Oregon NOW!

two good excerpts...

California’s three most powerful politicians — House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Sen. Dianne Feinstein and Gov. Gavin Newsom — are all multimillionaires. Their lives, homes and privileges bear no resemblance to those of other Californians living with the consequences of their misguided policies and agendas.

Insatiable state tax collectors and agencies are viewed by the public as if they were corrupt officials of Third World countries seeking bribes. Californians flip their switches unsure of whether the lights will go on. Many are careful about what they say, terrified of progressive thought police who seem more worried about critics than criminals.

Who and for what purpose?

Don’t you reckon that the CA leadership all got advanced degrees in the Cloward-Piven School of Anarchy!

When the curriculum emphasized ‘burning down the system’ the idiots took the message literally

Any chance to elect any type of CONSERVATIVE was eliminated with the open primary debacle.

Only the top 2 vote getters are on the general election ballots, the top 2 will always be LIB/PROG/GREEN/DEM/SOCIALIST types.

The only way a Republican could win is to be more liberal/progressive than those listed above.

And that’s why I no longer contribute to the California Republican Party.

Mexiforniastan is a flaming piece of dogshit infested by leftist maggots.

What is sad is that it is only going to get worse for them before it gets better.

re: “preemptively shut down transmission lines”

THIS doesn’t seem to be the case. Distribution lines, the lines serving neighborhoods, were shut down. This is relatively easy to do, remotely, by the system operator from a a center control point often called a Network Operations Center (NOC).

SHUTTING down “transmission lines” means that SUBSTATIONS went ‘black’, an entirely different things. ALL the automation in the SUBSTATION run on batteries which would run down after a few days ... PLUS, you would HAVE TO dispatch personnel to EACH AND EVERY substation to bring them back from being ‘black’(out), disconnected from the batteries.

My ideal scenario: Recall Newsom gets 1.5 million signatures and VDH is the ONLY Republican running, unlike the last recall when any circus clown could run. He runs as an academic, not a politician. Academics are not the answer but our problems are too deep. The special election happens before November and every assemblyman/senator thats up has to justify themselves.

This reminds me of the Mississippi River flooding.
For years people built homes on the Mississippi River as summer homes. Yet, EVERY FRIGGIN' YEAR the river flooded and FEMA picked up the tab for the damage done by the flooding.
Then, one bright day FEMA told those homeowners: You KNOW that the river floods every year so it's ON YOU. FEMA ain't payin' no more.

==========================
California folks who INSIST on living out in the boonies with nothing but trees around with FIRE DANGER warning signs all OVER the friggin' place CAN'T possibly be shocked at the massive fires.
California does NOT have four seasons. It has TWO: WET and DRY. The rainouts for the Padres, Dodgers, Angels, Athletics and Giants has always been almost ZERO cuz it's the DRY season. Dry from mid-April to mid-October; wet the other six months. There HAVE been a few variations but not many.

They tree huggers should know that when it's dry their merry forest is a TINDER BOX.

I wonder how many will rebuild in the exact same spot or GO BACK to their home-state.

True.

Too true and that would be worse than horrible.

I don't blame you.

“...their misguided policies and agendas.”. So now we must add Victor to the crowd that believes the Progs and Dems are misguided (are mistaken, have poor judgement, not workable, good intentions, etc).

News flash Victor!!! This crowd is not making mistakes. They know exactly what they are about and how to achieve it. The fact that CA will have a wealthy elite ruling a dependent underclass is a feature of their policies not a mistaken outcome. Fires and electric outages will depopulate the bourgeoisie middle class and force the underclass into ghettos.
