As firefighters battled the growing Easy fire in Simi Valley that exploded Wednesday morning, Oct. 30, to more than 1,300 acres, investigators were on the ground near the area where it is thought to have ignited.
The blaze, which ignited around 6 a.m., quickly grew and was nearing the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library by midmorning.
Arson investigators talked to people living at a homeless encampment on Easy Street.
Silke Brown, 48, and her boyfriend Bill were in their tent near Easy Street in Simi Valley when someone started yelling, Fire, fire!, she said. The couple grabbed backpacks and started running along with about 20 others.
We lost everything even though we didnt have much, she said.

Were the power lines turned off at that time?
A caller into Rushs show yesterday insinuated the homeless in San Diego were responsible for the fires in that area. Makes ya wonder.
I just heard him say this not 10 minutes ago on his podcast...
Sounded like he thought the guy was insane...
a different possibility now being reported by NBC Los Angeles:

“homeless encampment on Easy Street”
The irony!
that’s right.
The homeless do not have matches, or lighters.
they are the most solid of citizens. Sober and upstanding.
They have the best judgment and a true caring for fellow citizens.
Just makes you wonder. As quick as everyone piled onto the electrical company for that big blaze from last year....would the same public group jump on the homeless and demand they leave the area or state?
Camping out like this....I don’t see how you’d avoid not using sterno stoves, and if this were in some city park or state park area....you’d just be inviting potential fires.
Yeah. He brushed him off quick.
My first observation was the tree growth very close to these power lines
Good carch! Homeless on Easy St.
This is so sad. We left Simi less than 10 years ago, and there were ZERO homeless. Easy Street was in a spiffy business area.
Rather than blame the homeless, it would be well to place the blame with the eco-fascists where it rightly belongs.
A regular and prudent brush clearing program would preclude the possibility of fire, and would put plenty of people to work.
y. The romantic notion that they are all poor souls with big hearts is hollywood fantasy b.s. Most are useless drug users and alcoholics. The few that deserve to be saved are the mental cases who should be hospitalized. Now back to the fires. It wouldn’t be far fetched to believe a homeless person started the fire do to mental instability or the desire to burn down the “ rich” whom they hate anyway. the way to solv the homeless problem and sav tax payer dollars is to forbid soup kitchens.,Arrest them and open up homeless camps out in the desert run them like a military boot camp. firced medical bills exams, 3 meals , out of bed every morning, some work to do, some structure, Trade schools to attend. etc. move the mebtally unfit to a state run hospital. treat the rest.
Its hard to type on a phone after night shift. I apologise for the predictive text and misspellings
Once upon a time in down town San Jose, I ended up running a de facto homeless center when I got two former homeless roommates.
It's a very long story, the tales of which were legendary on the old FReoples Threads.
Take away? The kids were A-OK, respectful of me and my stuff. I did so little, they had a place to do laundry, shower, eat home cooked meals (Kenya was a really good cook) and sleep unhassled for a few days. Cleaned up and rested, they'd go out and get jobs. For years afterwards I'd get a knock on the door and it would be one of them just dropping by to say hi and thank me. I did so very little. It was gratifying and humbling.
The adults? Not so much...
Typing in the dark on a full sized keyboard here, I empathize!
Without addressing your screed (which I disagree with) point by point the homeless are where they are for a variety of reasons.
In California and many other places they’re being used as pawns in a cynical game to promote leftist political aims.
The fire problems in California are a direct result of decisions made by leftist politicians and eco-fascists.
We left Simi less than 10 years ago, and there were ZERO homeless
Then you weren’t looking very close, Near Brandeis(south end of Sequoia) is a HUGE Homeless camp that has been there for over 10 years, Up Tapo Canyon just past Walnut at Getty there has been a homeless camp for over 10 years, in fron of Home Depot buy the RR tracks there has been a Big Camp for over 10 years, there are also about 10 along the Arroyo Seco all the way to the Drive In. And yes that is Easy St!!
I lived there from 79 until 6 years ago
“residents of homeless encampment” = BUMS
Why interview them? They are all drug-addled, alcohol-addled and/or mentally ill.
Place them in mental asylums.
I'm going to say it one more time from my experience (don't ask). The majority of homeless just don't want to participate in or have any of the responsibilities of society. Yes, some are mentally ill, some are Veterans, some are addicts due to their own choices, and a very few who fell on hard times.
The vast majority are who we used to call BUMS and TRAMPS. They choose that lifestyle and rely on the Missions for food and shelter in bad weather, and some even get SS disability and some get Welfare. Of course, they are all in Democrat controlled urban cities.
