OIG Report: Social Security Administration Paid $11.6 Million to Dead Puerto Ricans
Breitbart ^ | 10/29/19 | Penny Starr

An Inspector General report for the Social Security Administration flew under the radar when it was issued in August, and the administration refused to answer Breitbart News’s inquiry about the findings that reveal $11.6 million in payments were paid to dead people in Puerto Rico.

The findings of the report stated:

SSA issued approximately $11.6 million in payments after death to 149 beneficiaries and 4 representative payees who died in Puerto Rico from January 1992 through December 2016. Identifying and correcting these discrepancies will prevent approximately

$1.4 million in additional improper payments after death over the next 12 months. We also identified 33,258 non-beneficiaries who were deceased according to Puerto Rico Department of Health vital records but whose death information was not in SSA’s Numident [“Numerical Identification System,” is the Social Security Administration’s computer database file of an abstract of the information contained in an application for a United States Social Security number].

We could not determine why the deaths were not in SSA’s Numident or whether Puerto Rico reported the deaths to SSA. Implementing EDR [Electronic Death Registration] should help ensure Puerto Rico deaths are properly and timely reported to SSA.

The Numident contained death information for two of the four representative payees; however, SSA had not replaced the representative payees. In several prior audits, we found SSA did not always replace representative payees after it posted death information to their Numident records.

Dead Puerto Ricans. Sounds like a Caribbean grind-metal band name.

What is the ratio of “false dead” declarations versus the unending payments to “fake alives” (otherwise known as scammers)?

The “false deads” can always avail themselves of the SS omsbudsman, the local office, their congressional representative, and the media.

I’m sure scammers outweigh the “false dead” but a HUGE margin. What I’m saying is they get caught put them on the dead list where it take years for them and their family members to try and rectify the situation, plus the cost of trying to hire a lawyer for the process.

But if they are scammers, I would doubt they would try to fight it or have the means necessary.

Well, when my mom was alive, she had a dispute with SS about her benefits. The desk-jockey at SS told her that she would have to bring “proof” of her claim before he would process any adjustment.

When she left her departing remark was that he’d have to kiss her ass, when she brought the document back to his desk.

A week later, she had a copy of the xray and a formal letter from the university surgeon stating the medical reason for her claim.

Then, she reminded the desk-jockey that he needed to get down on his knees and kiss her butt. Now, she was a robust, full-figured farm girl. She stood up, turned around, and started to bend forward all the while the hem of her skirt was going up like a venetian blind.    The desk-jockey signed the SS documents in a flash.

Sloth at the SS allows the wasteful over-spending and mis-spending to occur. Again, stop the payments and see who comes howling to the door.

Kudos to your Mom!

Unbelievable that they will happily pay dead people, but make honest citizens who’ve paid into the system jump through hoops to get what they are owed.
