Pelosi’s deceptive ‘impeachment vote’

Speaker Pelosi is playing word games, trying to pull a fast one on the Republicans, the American people, and the Constitution by appearing to “authorize” a formal impeachment inquiry, while not actually passing an impeachment resolution that would trigger rights for Republican House members to call witnesses and issue subpoenas.

That is why, when ambushed by NBC News, she was careful to make a distinction and say “It is not an impeachment resolution.” It was a walk-by comment:

Speaker Pelosi is holding a vote, a resolution, to affirm her previous declaration of a House “inquiry”…. Pelosi is not delivering a House “Resolution on Impeachment” for a vote, because if she did hold a vote on an impeachment resolution, the minority and the Executive branch would gain rights therein.

Note that the final wording of the resolution is not yet available

The rules for an “impeachment investigation” would provide rights for the minority and also rights for the Executive branch.

So instead of having a House vote to authorize an impeachment investigation, with subsequent rights for the minority; they are having a House vote to affirm the “impeachment inquiry” with an entirely different set of House rules that do not include rights for the minority.

But Lindsey Graham can subpoena ANYONE he wants to, RIGHT NOW. Why doesn’t he subpoena Schiff, all of his staff, Pelosi and her son, Hunter Biden, the so-called “whistle blower,” etc.? That would blow this whole thing to Kingdom Come.

So if you are a Dem from Dark Red district and cannot vote yes on a real Impeachment and survive, how can you vote yes on a fake Impeachment, a word smith slight of hand, and still survive?

I think this would insult the intelligence of the voters and make them even angrier.

I do not see how this provides political cover for any of her Crew or some dopey RINO.

In a perfect world that would happen now and real investigative journalists would be giving Pelosi no peace inquiring how her son, with no expertise got rich in the Ukraine. The Ukraine was a prosecutor free, off shore corruption zone for Democrats and their families. If the House does impeach, then Graham and the Republican Senators , prodded by Trump’s lawyers and the American people, will start questioning these people under oath. Its why some people suspect that Pelosi will drag these innuendo, kangaroo court proceedings against Trump for as long as possible to debilitate Trump politically but in the end will note have an impeachment vote claiming that she does not have the “votes”. Pelosi is dirty and will protect her son and the criminal enterprise.

Without an Impeachment Resolution which invokes due process, what Pelosi and Schiff are doing is simply gathering self serving untrue evidence to support the drafting of a Bill of Attainder against President Trump.

Bills of Attainder are prohibited by Article 1, clause 3 of the Constitution.The British used them to assign guilt and remove property without trial in colonial times. The House of Representatives has no ability to draft a Bill of Attainder and pass it, even under color of impeachment.

If they do pass Letters of impeachment without due process and the involvement of the entirety of the house of Representatives, as required by the Constitution and convention, any Letter of Impeachment can easily be declared null and void by the Senate as a prohibited Bill of Attainder.
