Nats owner says Trump has 'every right' to come to World Series game Sunday
The Hill ^ | 10/26/19 | Tal Axelrod

Posted on 10/26/2019 10:24:00 AM PDT by yesthatjallen

Nationals principal owner Mark Lerner said President Trump has “every right” to attend Sunday’s World Series game in Washington to watch the Nationals face off against the Astros.

“Well, he has every right to come,” Lerner said in an interview with The Washington Post Friday. “He’s the president of the United States whether you like him or not. It’s a special event. He should be at it.”

The president will not throw out the first pitch of Sunday’s game, with the Nationals instead tapping chef, philanthropist and vocal Trump critic José Andrés for the honor.

“The first pitches are our call, and we felt there are many other candidates that should be considered before [Trump],” Lerner said. “We wanted to have the right people. I think we got a nice mix of people.”

MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred said the league spoke with Trump about throwing out a first pitch, but that Trump declined, citing concerns about causing delays for fans entering the stadium.

“We actually had a conversation with him about first pitches,” Manfred told The Post. “His view was that in order to make the fan experience as positive as possible, he would arrive at Game 5 sometime after the game began so it wouldn’t interfere with fans getting into the stadium. Quite frankly, we were very grateful for that.”

Why does everything in DC have to be about politics?

A better question might be "why does DC exist at all?"

Return it to the States from whence it came.

Move the National government offices to Quonset huts near Belle Fourche, SD which is the geographic center.

Paint one of them Bright White.

“ If Killebrew throws the first pitch, it will be miraculous. He passed away earlier this year.”

I’m sure using some springs and rubber bands, they could rig up some device on his corpse and make him throw a ball.

Jose Andres

Named “Outstanding Chef” by the James Beard Foundation and recognized by Time magazine on the “Time 100” list of most influential people in the world...

Never heard of him...

The owner gave him neutral-negative feedback and assigned a Trump-hater to throw out the first pitch. This is D.C. where 90 percent of voters are leftwing Dems.

Look out, it’s a trap!

Watch it on TV or play some golf instead.

Vlad Guerrero, Andre Dawson, Tim Raines, Dennis Martinez, Andres Gallaraga. It would seem many of the Expos deserve it more than Jose Andres.

I have no grief with Andres.

The guy is a big advocate for illegal immigrants. He's always whining that no restaurant in America would be open without them. He loves cheap, illegal labor.

What’s really scary is it doesn’t sound made up.

The Dems have finally dropped their masks and have exposed themselves as the radical socialists the right has been saying they are for years.

No different than the Dems want Barr to recuse himself from the Ukraine investigation, yet they are fine with Schiff chairing an investigation when he is a fact witness.

We are truly in bizarro land.

I wonder if I am the only one who thinks of Frank Howard every time I hear about “the Nats”

Still remember listening to his home run in the Senators’ last game here like it was yesterday.

Yep, I also think of Frank Howard, Ken McMullen, Paul Casanova and those guys, when thinking about the “Nats”.

I recall back in those days, the Washington Post often had headlines about the Washington Senators, and the headline was “Nats lose”, or “Nats snap losing streak”, etc. Calling the team then the “Nats” even though they were officially the Senators.

I heard they did that because “Nats” was easy to fit in a headline, and because the original Washington Senators franchise had officially been the Washington Nationals at one time.

I recall hearing from some old timers, that the nicknames Senators and Nationals were at one time, used interchangeably for the original Washington American League franchise.

“Trump would be smart not to attend.”

Also, imagine the security issues with him like a sitting duck in the middle of the field surrounded by thousands, many of whom despise him. No SS nearby. It would be a nightmare.

True. You are touching on the fact that this Washington Nationals franchise was originally the Montreal Expos. I don’t know if the Nationals franchise really recognizes the history of their time in Montreal.

Not sure where a chef comes in for throwing out a world Series baseball but to each their own!

You gotta figure most of those with the ability to pay for a ticket in DC are somehow suckling at the Uniparty/DS/Federal teat. Not many Trump fans there

Excuse me? That is sort of a really broad based assumption. Tickets to ANY major sporting team event in the United States are outrageous. How ever I doubt that keeps supporters of President Trump from going to a game!

Please tell me she didn’t really say this?

It's as "true" as Schiff-for-brains reading of the phone conversation between President Trump and the head of the Ukraine.

The reason the counties surrounding DC are the richest in the country is due to the huge numbers of overpaid, bloated federal workers. The average federal worker in DC would be much better able to afford the price of a ticket than a non federal worker making non federal wages. Facts are facts. Also, I stand by my assertion that most most DC federal bureaucrats are not Trump supporters.

Not in DC there won’t be a standing O for President Trump.

I’d probably think about Harmon Killebrew...

Never heard of him...

Neither had I until last year when I read that he was cooking for the survivors of the Camp Fire in Paradise, they were most grateful; I know an evacuee who was delivering his food to other evacuees in hotel rooms. Apparently he does this at major disaster sites regularly.

Isn’t Schiff’s hobby make-believe? Doesn’t he write secret agent type fiction or film proposals for fun? He was just putting his fantasies to good use - from his point of view.

Seriously. Thought I read it here a few weeks ago.

a lot of old timers also used to say ‘Washington-first in war, first in peace, and last in the American League...’

Good for him.

I just question the idea he’s one of the top 100 most influential people, unless it’s limited to his profession.

Where Leftists do decent things, I’m willing to give them credit for it.

I will remind folks though, that they back an agenda that would destroy our nation if not placed in check.
