The Republican Party risks exile for longer than it has endured in the modern era if, in the absence of incontrovertible evidence of actual high crimes and misdemeanors, it deserts President Trump during the campaign to remove him from office. Democrats are pursuing impeachment because they obviously fear that they cannot defeat him at the ballot box in 2020.
The advantage of talking with radio listeners and not merely lecturing readers or tweeting at followers or opponents is that you hear from people who arent among the Manhattan-D.C. media elites who overwhelmingly hate Trump.
First, no quid pro quo, much less an illegitimate one, has been proved about Trumps dealings with Ukraine.
Second, quid pro quos have always been a feature of U.S. foreign policy from the long-ago Louisiana Purchase to more recently President Barack Obamas sending the Iranian regime $1.7 billion in cash, which was central to the controversial U.S.-Iran nuclear deal. Quid pro quos are sometimes excellent and obvious, sometimes controversial, sometimes illegal.
Third, if a quid pro quo involving Trump is established, and the agreement it refers to was the leveraging of military or civilian aid to Ukraine for assistance in the investigation of the attack on the 2016 presidential election, that would not be illegitimate.
Fourth, the impeachment inquiry cannot be allowed to block or overshadow the deep dive by Attorney General William P. Barr and U.S. Attorney John Durham into a suspected handful of anti-Trump zealots at senior levels in the FBI, the intelligence community or within the White House. If Congresss attack on Trump is permitted to subvert the Justice Department investigation before its findings are publicly aired, the Republican establishment in Washington will simply be torched by the GOP grass roots.

Hugh is a former never Trumper???
I have already abandoned the GOP..at the DC level..
I was an ass I sent Rubio money..what a fool i was
A lot of these dopes still don’t get it. We’re gone already. Looong gone.
He’s been pro-Trump for a while now.
I was listening to Rubio on the radio the other night. I was straining, I mean I was straining to hear ONE CLEAR word or two that supported Trump.
NooOOOOOOOooooooo. No, this clown, chose his words very carefully. Making out the Syrian thing to be a very complex situation etc etc.
You get the idea, that these elected Senators are for the most part, buffoons. Do nothings, and no one is more a do nothing than Marco Rubio.
All of them.
And today, I’m seeing where Old Mithc is choosing his words very carefully also.
Mr. Hewitt, please tell me why you feel the need to compel Republicans to support Trump?
This is my beef. Why is “the base” constantly in this position of constantly having to cajole elected “Republicans” to stand up and fight after they have been elected?
It’s like every elected Republican is a useless and flaccid noodle constantly having to be warned about their predisposition to willingly allow Democrats to simply continue to rape them.
Yup. If they don’t defend Trump from all the attacks, the GOP may as well merge with the Rat party and honestly BE the Uniparty.
If Trump is chased from office, I am convinced a new middle/ right party will emerge
Maybe, since they only listen to the stupid failed political consultants and the Fake Demcorat Fascist directed News, this might finally penetrate the fog of invincible stupidity the DC GOP-E types keep themselves locked in.
I didn’t know that Hewitt was now pro-Trump. He obviously saw that it is not very profitable to be a never-trumper.
The dirty little secret here is that the Republican base isnt very Republican at all. I suspect no more than 10% of the voters in this country actually support the fascist/globalist agenda of the D.C. Republican Party.
“This is my beef. Why is the base constantly in this position of constantly having to cajole elected Republicans to stand up and fight after they have been elected?”
They may go to Washington with the best of intentions but then they have it explained to them that they’d better go along or they’re toast. DC is in the business of farming us.
Yes, I would imagine that was the case!
He still is a never Trumper. Leopards cannot change their spots. Don’t trust him.
TRUTH IS A FORCE OF NATURE!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) July 24, 2019
You’re right. THEY are the reason being a ‘republican’ became an embarrassment so long ago.
Without corporate donors and its being a great place to launder their money....the GOP wouldn’t even exist anymore
They left us.
We didn’t leave them.
so.. the left would have us believe that the chief law enforcement officer in the US (the president) cant encourage a foreign ally to cooperate in an ongoing criminal investigation?
and
the left would have us believe that anyone running for president is completely shielded from prosecution for crimes they may have committed ?
the only ABUSE of power I see here is NANCY abusing the power of the house majority!
so FU Nancy!
WE stand with PRESIDENT TRUMP!
Their Base will vote Demonut ?
IMHO, there’s a couple of factions to the GOP.
There’s the GOPe made up of Bush-league types as well as the “get along and we’ll all get rich” country club types. Both of these kinda blend together to make up the “lifers’ within the party. Then, there are some good guys that love the country and want to make things right by sincerely representing the People.
The GOPe doesn’t even deserve spit...they’ve sold us out, and the country...over and over again to line their pockets with cash. They’re no better, and even worse, than the RATs.
GOPe = RAT = UniParty = Deep State = Communists.
I donate to specific candidates that try to represent us properly. I NEVER donate money to the general GOP party. And never will unless/until all the GOPe types are gone.
