Fire safety power blackouts begin for as many as a half-million in California
NBC News ^ | Octobet 23, 2019 | Alex Johnson

California's largest utility once again began shutting off electricity to nearly a half-million people on Wednesday to protect against wildfires sparked by their equipment.

And yet another widespread blackout could be needed next week, it said.

Hot, dry Santa Ana winds and low humidity were creating a high risk of damage and sparks and "rapid wildfire spread," Pacific Gas and Electric Corp., or PG&E, said in announcing that it was beginning to cut off power to 179,000 customers in the northern part of the state Wednesday afternoon.

Just the Republican parts. It is all about repopulating the rural parts so liberals can look at pristine forests.

As soon as they find out it does they’ll be cutting power off all over the state in random power outages.

California never had this problem until they “greened” the foest service. Used to be a 5,000 acre fire was a big one, now 100,000 acre is common.

Democrats could break a bowling ball.

So let me see if I understand this. California has a law that says the power company is liable for any damage their facilities cause regardless of the reason. So in order to mitigate their liability the power company shuts off the power when conditions are such that their equipment might cause a fire. Then the State of California says the power company has to pay their customers for the inconvenience of having their power shut off. Hmm. If I were PG&E i’d hand the keys to the office to Gov Newsom and say, “Here ya go wise guy, you run the f*ckn place now”

By judge’s order.

You need to read more.

Just practice to be like North Korea. And is there a reduction in the pg&e invoice for the down time? And, apparently it causes a petro transfer line to be shut down that sends fuels to the Reno area.

Part of keeping a large electric system operational includes trimming all vegetation near the power lines, right?
It should be on page one of the manual. I don't get it.

You forgot the part that goes after than....then Gavin Newsom signed a law requiring the power companies to do Public Safety Shut offs.

No one mentions that. I’m not a fan of PG&E but they are following Gavin Newsom’s law.

PG&E is simply responding the only way they are permitted to, by the California state government. They have been hit with ENORMOUS fines for causing blazes to happen in in the vicinity of their lines, when the fire was supposed to have been started by an overloaded transformer or line break and resulting sparking. The excessive regulation, regarding the maintenance of the transmission lines ROW and brush clearing, have tied the hands of the PG&E management, and the utility is forced to limit from where and how they are supposed to get the power to even begin distributing it.

California is a failed state in SO many ways.

Safety first. Everybody in the fire danger area just needs to stay home. When the wind is over 20 mph, shut everything down and wait for instructions for local authorities.
