There is a 20% chance Senate Republicans would be inclined to vote to impeach and remove President Donald Trump, a Republican source told "Fox News Sunday" host Chris Wallace.
Wallace told White House chief of staff Mick Mulvaney during an interview Sunday that there seems to be some Republicans who, "if not breaking with the president distancing themselves from the president."
"I talked to a very well-connected Republican in Washington this week," Wallace added.
"Somebody whose name you would know well, who says, that 'if the House votes to impeach and it gets to a trial in the Senate, there is now a 20% chance,' he believes obviously it's just an estimate now a 20% chance enough Republicans will vote with the Democrats to remove the president."
Mulvaney called the speculation "absurd."
"This comment about a 20% chance this person clearly doesn't know what they're talking about," Mulvaney said.
Mulvaney pointed to President Trump's unpopular move with Republicans on a troop withdrawal in Syria, suggesting they might bend on support for the president but they will not break because "eventually they have to go back home" to their Trump-supporting districts.
Fox News' Wallace has been famously anti-Trump, slamming his colleagues for supporting the president of the United States and reportedly attacking and mocking the president in private.

Gotta keep up the illusion that the GOP might vote to remove him so the House will vote to impeach.
Yeah, yeah...we all already know where Mitt Romney stands.
What a bunch of BS. There may be Republicans that fantasize about voting for conviction in the Senate but in real life they would be banished to the back bench for decades. All one has to do is look at the slaughter that resulted from Nixon’s resignation to see what would happen. The media would be only to happy to push whatever narrative made the punishment worse/ longer lasting.
The chance the Senate votes to convict is 0%
The Senate has become our very own House of Lords.
FWIW, I don’t trust a sodding single one of them.
Karl Rove.
Cough up a name Pris or it didn’t happen.
Yep, has to be Romney.
ps. Since the House is not likely to vote to impeach, this is all pointless chatter.
Rightttttttt. And, there’s a chance I might win the lottery too.
I swear some of these rumors must be put out there by Trump himself because it helps him make a strong case next year about the importance of draining the Swamp.
There is a 30% chance that Wallace has had sex with a donkey.
Un-named Senator=Mitt Romney.
Who dey foolin?
Not a surprise coming from never-trumper Wallace.
Wallaces comments are crazy, but not crazy enough for MSNBC or CNN.
All one has to do is look at the slaughter that resulted from Nixons resignation to see what would happen.
Actually, in the election after Watergate, Ford lost by a narrow margin.
It was by no means a slaughter.
Lot of impeachment talk, ZERO talk of what high crimes and misdemeanors have been committed.
It’s time to throw the bums out.
All Pubbie senators need to do is look at PDJT’s rallies and fund raising. Any one who dares even to consider voting to convict is sticking his/her head into a political guillotine and pulling the rope. Of course, Pubbie voters would be anxiously standing in line enthusiastically bidding for the privilege of pulling the rope.
LOL if the GOP votes to impeach it will be the end of the Republican Party it will cease to exist so this is total BS
