The Kurdish Question: From Paris (1919) to Erbil (2019)
Ed Maps ^ | October 2019 | Cristian Ionita

Often described as one of the largest national communities in the world without their own state, the Kurds, numbering somewhere between 25 and 30 million, are a very distinct community, with its own language, history and traditions. Nonetheless, their ethnic identity has been for a long time denied by their major neighbors, the Arabs, the Turks and the Persians. Without their own state, the Kurds have seen the Kurdistan, “the land of the Kurds”, divided mainly between these neighbors (the present-day states of Turkey, Syria, Iraq and Iran).

The Kurdish nation originated from the ancient communities indigenous to the Mesopotamia and Western Iran. A predominant Muslim people, the Kurds speak a Northwestern Iranian language and are concentrated today mostly in the Eastern Turkey, Northern Iraq and Syria, Western and Northeastern Iran, with smaller enclaves lying within the present-day borders of Armenia, Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan, and a large diaspora in Western Europe.

This article, Kurdistan in Seven Maps, will help the reader understand how complicated and unsolvable on the field of battle this has proven to be. The solution can only come from the Kurds themselves and the countries they live in; four countries however, they are divided both politically, ideologically, and geologically...IMHO. America has not deserted her allies ... the propaganda on that score is vicious and vile...President Trump and his advisors are doing the right thing...turn a deaf ear to the nay sayers, America is still in the area.

We did not make this mess, it is not ours to clean up.
I am sympathetic to the Kurds, but it’s not our problem.
Taking on Turkey, Iraq, Iran and Syria to carve out Kurdistan is what would be required.
We should not be there.

It’s long running tribal warfare. No way should the U.S. intervene.

I couldn't agree with you more. President Trump's remarks at his rally in LA. and his plea for Americans to understand, was heartfelt and a well thought out plan.

Politicians like Adam Schiff and others parroting propaganda about the Military's Commander in Chief makes it difficult for our soldiers, their families and We The People. For Adam Schiff to make sophomoric and irresponsible remarks about his country's President is disgusting.

I find it amazing how the media is all trying to get us into a war - it’s obviously just another effort to get Trump

All of their comments are preceded by “
Trump abandoned our allies”

Munchin today was very good on this matter as was Rand Paul

Of course let’s not forget what iran did just a few weeks ago in Saudi Arabia

and everybody was Gunning for war there as well and you know the Iranians were hoping he would

Well he didn’t take that bait either

The biggest bait he never took was firing mule-head

As the Democrats get more and more desperate , coming toward their first primary which is February 3 , we can see more and more pathetic desperate attempts to beat trump into making some kind of mistake that would make him unpopular and separate him from those of us that love our great and wonderful president

I think with even the stupid vapid evil Democrats are starting to learn it that this man has been through a lot of rough and tumble circumstances in his life thrived in the New York media for four years which is the most vicious on the planet and he’s not gonna fall for any other stupid tricks

And more importantly the guy fights back , and relishes the fight , and you can see in these rallies loves to be with the people of this great nation

We’re living in most wonderful times fellow Freepers !

When the Ottoman Empire was broken up, countries over there divvied up the land. This occurred with two treaties. The Treaty of Sèvres in 1920 which gave the Kurds a country. Three years later, it was renegotiated with the Treaty of Lausanne which did not give the Kurds a country.

The USA was not a signatory to either treaty. Most of the signatory countries are members of NATO. If anyone should be trying to fix the Kurd/Syria/Turkey situation, it should be those countries who signed the second treaty, including the UK, Italy, Greece, Japan, France and of course Turkey.

There’s no good way to pull out of the middle east but it needs to be done.

I notice that European diplomats being interviewed by American reporters ( barf alert) are never asked this question.
If it’s so important that American troops remain in northern Syria for stability in the region, and to stop mass migration into Europe, then where are the French, German, Danish, Belgian, British, Irish, Italian, and Norwegian troops to rotate in and give our guys a break and support... crickets chirp expectantly.

Been reading today. Add Ireland, Croatia, Slovenia, Serbia, Romania, and Belgium.

It sounds like we were set up by the last admin to stop the flow of Muslim migrants through northern Syria to Europe.

My question... Why in the hell can’t Europe can’t protect it’s own borders??? Why is that our job?

In 1948 we gave Europe 14 billion dollars with the Marshal plan. I’m tired of protecting Europe. In the 30’s many Americans had close family ties to Europe, now we are at least 2 generation out. ENOUGH.

We are not Europe’s piggy bank!

Bush II had a great opportunity to deal with this issue.
