GETTING UNDERWAY

A young Ensign, who had just completed his first overseas deployment, was given the opportunity to "show his stuff" by getting his ship underway. As he yelled out commands with great confidence, sailors were running everywhere. In no time, the ship came out of the channel, headed for home. It was accomplished so well that he set a new record for getting a destroyer underway.

He wasn't surprised when a seaman approached him with a message from his CO...he WAS surprised to find that it was a radio message. He was even more surprised as he read, "Bravo Zulu upon completing your underway preparation exercise according to the book and with amazing speed. In your haste, however, you have overlooked one of the unwritten rules...always make sure the CO is aboard before getting underway".

In our haste to "get underway" daily in this vast ocean that we call "life", let us remember to make sure that God is aboard. It is He who will guide and direct us safely through the storms and rough seas!

CAPT Diana L. Meehan, CHC, USN

I saw them earlier sitting on the branch above the nest. Nearly fell out of my chair. LOL! They grow up too fast.

Wow! It REALLY cooled off there. But had to be welcome after the heat you’ve had for the past few months. I know I’m not complaining....yet...of cold feet. :)

Wow! He/She is really high on the branch. This is a great season. We’ve never gotten to really see them after they’ve grown up and have become so beautiful.

That’s Popeye and he fledged. He’s not even in the nest tree. He’s in the cam tree, directly below the cam.
He’s so proud of himself. He fledged before Big Sis.

I just read that from the chat so went back and watched his take-off. He looked at Big Sis right before that like “Watch This”. Good job, Popeye!

Popeye’s been sitting way up the parent branch for a couple of days. Big Sis still stays down by the nest.
They just panned up to her and she’s staring down at Popeye, looking glum. LOL

It sure was a shock to walk out of the house this morning to be hit by windy 45 degrees. The wind cut like a knife. Hurt even more because it was 82 degrees yesterday. Might drop into the upper 30s overnight. BRRRRR!
At least the temps will be nice for the next week.

Too bad you can’t have the 70s there, too, but 80s aren’t too bad.

Wasn’t that look great? LOL! When he did it I laughed and thought, “He’s gonna do it! He’s gonna fledge!”

Now to see if he can make it back to the nest easily whenever food is delivered.

Howdy, Kathy.

Had a nice, quiet weekend? Did you make it through the week without any snow?

It certainly is! We were 82 yesterday and Thurs. and it felt pretty nice after weeks and weeks of 90s.
Today’s temp drop was too much too soon. We’d like to have a little autumn before hitting winter.

Yeah, that 45 was quite a blast to open the door to. LOL!

Popeye is really showing off. I am having fun watching him. :)

Yeah, the wind chill was colder and it kinda took my breath away. Not used to being cold. LOL
It’s down to 41 now so I reckon we’ll hit the 30s as they predicted. BRRRR

Popeye flew off when that dratted magpie showed up and the cam op can’t find him now. I hope he didn’t miss a branch and wind up on the ground. There’s a fox in the neighborhood ..... it was spotted walking underneath the branch Popeye was on earlier.

Good evening/morning, radu...and a Blessed Lord’s Day to you and yours.

Hope you had a good museum day. More uniform cleaning? Saddle polishing? Rain?

Hope they have found him by now. I saw that he had gone again and that they were searching, but there was a mod job I had to do on the shooting in Fort Worth.

It’s 56 here now. My feets are chilly, but I haven’t put sox on. Yet. :) Sounds very much like y’all will make it down to 30. Whew!

Hey, there Kathy.

It was VERY slow at the museum today. I didn’t clean any uniforms. Took advantage of the slow day and cleaned the museum instead. Why do people feel the need to put their hands on glass cases? GRRRRRR!!!! They’re sparkly-clean now and the floor’s swept and it’s spiffy for next weekend.
The visitors we did have were fun to chat with and it was a good day all around - - except for it being cold. LOL

There was rain in west TN yesterday but it fizzled out before it got here. Again. Oh well, we’re used to it.

Looks a bit dry up your way too.

A very pleasant good Sunday morning and ((HUGS)) to everyone at the Canteen and to all our military at home and abroad. Thanks for your service to our country.

How's everyone doing this morning?

It looked like he flew upwards a bit and Big Sis keeps looking up, but they were panning lower when they looked around earlier. No sign of him yet any way.

We’re sitting at 41 but since the sky’s clear, it should drop down a little more before long. Won’t get down to freezing but upper 30s are most likely.
I do have socks on tonight because it’s too cold to go without them. The tootsies would be ice cubes by now.

Howdy, E.G.C. ((HUGZ))

Bet you’re wearing that jumpsuit nowadays when you take Gizmo to the lake! Is he enjoying the cooler weather or would he rather be curled up in front of a heater? LOL

I imagine they would be ice cubes. Mine are getting pretty chilly, but I need to go pretty soon, so I don’t do that ol’ head banging trick on the pew in the morning.

See ya tomorrow! Glad you had a good day at the museum!
