What the Democrats fear most is happening: President Trump and his negotiating team are reaching wide-ranging agreements with China that will be a huge boon to the United States.
In an Oval Office press conference yesterday, President Trump and Chinas Vice Premier announced a Phase 1 set of agreements that will be documented over the next several weeks. The video of the press conference is embedded below; Trumps performance was masterful. His many years of experience as a negotiator shine through.
The Phase 1 agreement covers several important topics, including agricultural sales. China has agreed to ramp up its purchases of agricultural products to $40-$50 billionthree times the previous peakover the next two years. Trump joked that farmers will need to buy more land and work overtime. That means, I think, that Democrats can say goodbye to hopes that tariffs would be the issue that could win votes in rural America.
The agreement also opens up Chinas financial services markets to American companies, covers currency manipulation, and addresses some aspects of intellectual property and technology transfer agreements. Phase 2 negotiations will begin immediately.
Many are saying that the Chinese willingness to enter into this wide-ranging agreement shows that they understand impeachment is a joke, and expect that President Trump will be re-elected. In fact,
Trump himself said exactly that in response to a question: They expect that Im going to win. Otherwise they wouldnt sign the deal. Its very simple. If Trump can get our relationship with China straightened out well in advance of the election, with economic benefits becoming visible, the main obstacle to his re-election will, in my opinion, be removed.
Here is the press conference in its entirety:

What you say is usually true but usually they are dealing with politicians. If they renege on our President they know they will suffer serious consequences.

His main success was ending the Cold War and defeating the Soviet Union. That would be a great triumph.
Interesting post... thanks.
Very good info sir. Thanks !
“IMO, selling them soybeans and pork is no big deal.”
Oh, it is a big deal.
China has big issues with its agriculture. Most of the farms in the PRC are, or at least still or appear to be, very small. Many still use an ox or small tractor that looks like something from the 1950s. They also appear to be poorly run.
Most of the young people have left the farms and moved to the cities and a lot of the farmers are getting very old. There is an effort by the government to get younger people back farming again but I have no idea if it is working.
Poor agricultural practices like using human sewage as a fertilizer mean that the crops are often contaminated. Overuse and misuse of pesticides are rampant. Pigs are routinely fed steroids to make them grow faster. Look up the scandal with the poisonous powdered mild products several years ago.
I do know for a fact that many Chinese avoid food products produced in China. They don’t trust them more than you do, maybe less.
It is said here that “Demographics is destiny” that is true in more than voting. What happens when all those 60 to 70-year-old farmers die off?
Selling China food makes them dependant upon the US. That is, strategically a very good thing.
No nation can be a great power if it cannot feed itself. That is one reason why Japan and South Korea have such high agricultural tariffs
PDJT just subverted the entire Chinese economy.
I thought the Chinese were communist. That being said, they should have a never ending supply of farmers because it would seem the people would be forced into that occupation. Also, control of who goes where (kids going to city) would be implemented.
China is not as communist in practice as it is in theory. In many ways, it has made the transition from a Communist dictatorship to a Fascist Oligarchy. I am not sure if that is an improvement or not.
Do not misunderstand it is a tightly controlled society and repressive in many ways but they can’t just tell people “Be a farmer” The current leaders are well aware of the hardships and the famine caused when Chairman Mao tried to do similar type things in the ‘60s with the “Great Leap Forward”. They know they would not survive such a situation today. They are also well aware, though they deny it publicly of the massive problems they have with pollution. About the only option, they have left is to import food.
More recently, the leaders in the PRC have the example of North Korea trying to create fishermen by taking people without the requisite skills and putting them on trawlers with a warning to not return without a full catch. The people they put on the boats to fish didn’t know how to either work the nets or pilot the boat. They got to sea and starved to death or died of exposure. Literally, 100’s of North Korean fishing trawlers with dead crews ended up on the beaches of South Korea, Japan, and China.
I placed a link to one story about this below. What it describes was a small part of the story

China has fairly free internal movement within the country and has had since about 1989. You no longer, to my knowledge have to get permission to move from one place to another. Or if you do, it isn’t hard to get. Chinese citizens travel to other places as tourist all the time. If the PRC tried to suddenly, by force tell people “Move back to the farm and grow rice” I don’t think it would work very well.
China has a huge problem with agriculture and it is only going to get worse.
If they renege, they have to pray he doesn’t win again...he’ll twist their nipples until their balls fall off.
I agree with dp062. If a Chinese negotiator is speaking its a good bet he is lying, or not planning to follow through.
Afterall, history is history...
If they renege or keep cheating and stealing tech secrets, he will DESTROY them next year.
He may destroy them before then.
Even the chinese advisers must Know the impeachment is a joke.
I imagine they have some folks who are experts on our govt and what is going on here.
Is it possible they ALREADY think impeachment is a no go AND he is going to win?
Is it worth the risk of ticking him off for the next year if he wins again?
I dunno lol
I can’t even decide what to have for lunch! :)
Enjoy your day Trebb
Ronald Reagan grew up in a different time and place than Donald Trump. They are both men of their times.
I am hoping monday is like last friday when my AMD stock went up $1.37 / 4.83%
I imagine they've infiltrated many of our institutions and flat out own a bunch of them.
Yeah I was thinking that a little too.
But you nailed it with the words
